I visited on a Sunday around noon, among the first customers, though the post-church crowd soon filled the place. The extensive menu offered many choices, making it tough to decide. The Mexican food was solid, but not outstanding, and made for a satisfying lunch. Service was friendly when ordering, but tapered off afterward—don’t expect a bill brought to your table; you’re supposed to pay at the checkout counter, so don’t wait around for it.

We ordered some breakfast burritos to go and they were amazing! They were stuffed full. Their green salsa is simply the best around. I could buy bottles of that. The flavors are so fresh you can tell everything is from scratch. We have tried other locations for breakfast in the area for tacos/ burritos and this is by far the best. Come support this great place!

Fresh tortillas !!! Hot sauce is way too hot . Need a milder version. Good food and service.!
Small on the inside . Gets busy at dinner .

I dropped by El Agave and absolutely enjoyed the experience. The Mole Negro (made from scratch, layered with flavors of pasilla, ancho, mulato chilis, chocolate, and more) was so rich and satisfying — and their “Trilogía de Moles” (verde, rojo, amarillo) was a beautiful presentation and taste journey. Their Tacos de Camarón (jumbo shrimp with garlic-butter sauce and roasted chile de árbol) and Tacos de Pulpo al Pastor (octopus with pineapple and avocado cream) were also highlights.
The ambiance felt warm and inviting, with just the right mix of cozy and refined. The staff were friendly, eager to explain dishes, and clearly proud of their menu. If you love Mexican cuisine with depth and variety, this place is a fantastic find.

Fabulous food and very filling. Hit the spot after a long day out at Trade Days. There’s a great hot sauce. The dark of the three. Both green sauces are good too.

The food was delicious! I had the chicken tortilla soup and yum. Bigger portion than I thought but didn’t hate it. They didn’t have cheeseburger on the kids meal but got my niece a regular burger. Barbacoa was good. Service was polite and constantly working, filling up cups of salsa and cleaning.

My daughter brought me lunch she ordered a steak quesadillaand when I opened my meal it looked like it came from the kids meal, it’s the worst lunch I’ve sen there. This mail cost me $15 and what I get that looks like it cost 7. This is not the first time ordering through the drive-thru and you get home and it’s a complete rip-off, but when you eat inside it’s great but the drive-thru service need some work.

Food was decent, definitely has that Tex-Mex flair. The servers were very friendly and welcoming, which made the experience enjoyable. One suggestion: since it’s a family-friendly restaurant, it would be really helpful to have a changing table in the restroom. We had to change our babies in the car, which was inconvenient.

The food and service were good. I ordered the Texas plate and the carne guisada had a very good flavour. I also ordered a margarita and it was delicious.

Great little tex-mex/mexican joint. The seats have cool embroidery and are very solid tables which adds to the natural Mexican restaurant feel. I usually get the barbacoa plate but the carne asada is also delicious. The margaritas seem a little bit syrupy. But the prices are very affordable and they’ll usually walk out paying only 40 or $50 for two people. The chips and salsa that you originally get seem very authentic and the chips are very thick and crunchy. All in all this is definitely a good Mexican place if you’re driving through Johnson City and need to grab a quick bite at an affordable price.
