Duende is a Spanish Inspired neighborhood restaurant in Oakland’s Uptown district. Duende’s inspiration is authentic regional Spanish cuisine, but with equal parts traditional and contemporary influences. Our cuisine is comprised of local, sustainable ingredients from farmers and ranchers with whom we have had long and rich relationships. Our intense desire for creative expression results in a daily-changing menu that is dynamic and ever-evolving. Offerings from our kitchen include small plates of Tapas and Pintxos, intermediate selections of Raciones, as well as gorgeous pans of Paella and Fideua, all designed to be shared among family and friends.

Innovative Spanish spot serving tapas & large plates in sprawling quarters with a live-music space.

Really enjoyed the squid ink paella. Ordered the croquettes and a salad, which were also quite delicious.

Beautiful space and art work and our waitress was very knowledgeable of the menu. Although it was a Mothers Day.. ppl seated after us were served their food before us.The chef served us one of our appetizers and apologized for the wait time and was very hospitable.

Had an amazing time at the Orchestra Nostalgico Dinner event. The staff, food, and entertainment was absolutely perfect. The flavors in the beautifully presented dishes were enticing. The Sangria was a nice touch. Can’t wait to go back!

the drinks were good, the food did not have much of a wow factor for me. I wanted to love this place but the paella were a bit to oily for my taste and the batatas bravas were very very very mid. I was looking forward to the branzino but it wasn’t available. The corn cheese balls were my favorite thing on the menu. It was too expensive in exchange for what we got

Delicious food and great service in a very cool environment. My wife and I went for their Flamenco night. The staff was super helpful and friendly. The food was delicious and satisfying and a bit exotic relative to what we usually eat, which made the meal very special. The highlight was the Flamenco performance. It was an outstanding group, with a very talented guitarist, a singer with a perfect Flamenco voice, and two incredibly skilled and evocative dancers. It’s so great that we can get a taste of this without traveling to Spain. We’re looking forward to our next visit.

I stopped in for a burger before a show at the Fox Theatre. They managed to seat me on a busy Friday, which I appreciated. I had a good Manhattan and the lamb and beef burger with house made crisps. The burger was the best I’ve had this year and the crisps were fresh and tasty if a bit too salty. I’m planning to bring friends back to try more of the menu.

A friend made fun of me because my expectation of this place is that it was a “Spanish Bar”. Well is not. Despite them having some traditional Spanish “tapas” at $15-20 each (and they are tapas size). The decoration is cool but I think the price is not worth it. $18 for a tortilla de papas tapas is too much for potato + egg. $22 for a small grilled octopus. They also have paellas which we didn’t try so I can’t say anything, but I you are going thinking this will be like those bars in Madrid, it ain’t it. Is my fault for having big expectations.

Seriously over-rated, we had a group of 7 for the chef’s selection, which was a huge disappointment. The seafood paella that featured seafood sausage actually turned off everyone who tried it. There was a tasteless cabbage salad. The flan was the star of the evening. Find this useful? Please like and follow.

Great place for friends and family or date night. Kitchen got a little confused but fun menu, reasonably priced. Good desserts and wine list.
