Philly cheesesteak – pretty good. Could use some green peppers but it’s good! And seasoned well! And the bread didn’t get soggy either.
Plain fries – good and crispy. Not soaked in oil.
If you’re tired of the Hawaiian plates, Asian food, or fast food around here, this is definitely worth checkin out! I, personally, will be returning.
Our experience at this establishment was exceptional in every regard. From the warm welcome, including specific driving directions provided via mobile phone, to the diverse menu options and high-quality meal preparation in a clean food truck kitchen, every detail was meticulously executed. The staff was kind and respectful, contributing to an overall top-notch experience with true aloha! Trust us, as food enthusiasts, we highly recommend this business with great confidence! We are already looking forward to our next visit! A special thanks for taking the time to meet our dog! It meant a lot to us.
We stumbled upon Duck Fat on our first full day on the Big Island, eager to find something local and delicious. Little did we know it would completely ruin the rest of our food plans. Why? Because nothing else we tried on the island came close. We’ve now been back three times in under two weeks. That’s not vacation behavior… that’s obsession.
From the moment you walk up, the folks running Duck Fat make you feel like ohana. By our second visit, they already recognized us, greeted us with genuine warmth, and thanked us like we were regulars. Their love for their craft and community shows in every single interaction—this is exactly the kind of local business we want to support when we travel.
And the food? Absolutely phenomenal.
The lamb and beef gyro is perfection: juicy, flavorful meat, charred just right, tucked into pillowy-soft flatbread with crisp veggies, creamy tzatziki, and a little side of pepperoncini to keep things zippy. And then there are the loaded Philly-style fries—cheesy, meaty, dreamy. These aren’t your typical soggy mess. They somehow stay crisp while being blanketed in all that melty, savory goodness. I don’t know how they do it, but I’m grateful they do.
It’s no exaggeration to say that Duck Fat is a 5-star affair across the board. Delicious food, heartfelt service, and a vibe that makes you want to come back before you’ve even finished eating.
Now, I haven’t had that many phillys in my life but WOW!! This is by far the best one! And the fries are to die for. They asked if I wanted ketchup and garlic aioli which I gladly said yes to but I didn’t even use it, the fries are that good on their own. If you are in the Hilo area, definitely a must try.
