Deeply smoked Bosnian beef sausage with light spicing. … Mild in flavor & distinctively different from typical restaurant lamb offerings.

Come for the authentic Bosnian pitas, stay for the truly familial atmosphere. Just don’t complain about the volume of the Bosnian pop music or it will be turned up (and you might get yelled at) – literally – but hey, dinner and a show! Service was friendly and genuine, and the Turkish coffee was delightful. Bonus points for the real orchids on all the tables. Just don’t come here with with a timeline in mind, waiting is part of the experience.

We had the place to ourselves for an early Friday dinner and were delighted with the charm and friendly service. We both had pita, I tried the vegetarian spinach one and my sister had the meat one. The server brought us a delicious spread of appetizers while we waited and we enjoyed the fruit water. The pita was very worth the wait! Large portions and so good. They had several vegetarian dishes. We split a piece of baklava to finish and it was also very good. Highly recommend!

It’s our first time trying Bosnian cuisine, and we would describe it as “comfort food with different spices”. The food was very good and presented beautifully, with generous servings of cut fruits on the side. The ambience of the main dining area was nice, with a little bit of 50’s feeling. We didn’t spend too much time in the more modern bar area (?). We came at a rather unfortunate time as the restaurant just lost 3 staffers that day, so service was slow. The elderly owners, however, amazingly served us themselves with dedication, chatted with every diner, and worked in the kitchen. I would normally give a 2-3 for this kind of slow service, but looking at the situation and the level of details that the elderly couple poured over the many diners, I can only imagine the service would have been great at better times.

If I could give this place zero stars, I would. I should have read the one star reviews, but they had over a 4.5 rating, which blows my mind. First of all, they didn’t have the veggie cabbage rolls or baklava. We decided to get the cheese and spinach pie because the pictures looked pretty good. We also ordered a flavored, sparkling mineral water and a soda. The server whispered “Jesus Christ…” under his breath. The owner came over while I was in the middle of drinking my drink and told me that the server didn’t give me a ladie’s glass, to which she brought me back a small wine goblet with a quarter amount of the drink that I had previously been drinking. She patted me on the back and told me, “there you go,” as if I should be happy that she took 3/4 of my drink from me?? Then she brought out an accompaniment to the dish and asked me if I was vegetarian like my husband and I said “yes.” She said “good, because I would be afraid to serve someone like YOU meat.” Maybe she was trying to be nice, but it really didn’t seem that way, especially when she looked me up and down and patted my shoulder again. The last straw for me was when they brought out our entree. It looked like the freezer section spanakopita appetizers that you can get from a grocery store. They tasted worse than those somehow. They looked nothing like the pictures, just 6 typical, tiny triangles. I asked my husband if he wouldn’t mind paying for the meal so I could walk to the car, rather than getting more frustrated. All in all, the experience was a total waste of $40. Don’t waste your time here.

Ooooh this place is special. We got the vegetarian cabbage rolls and the red pepper spread. Due to our timing and pup in the hotel we got food to go, but the actual restaurant is lovely. It’s like going to my Aunt AnnaMae’s house. They want you to be comfortable and satisfied. We wanted the espresso drink so we had to drink it there and the service was fantastic. Our food came with fruit and salad and surprise candies in the bag. I have never had Bosnian food before and everything had great flavor. Totes recommend for tasty dining in Astoria.

What a lovely and unexpected find!! This is a wonderfully authentic Bosnian restaurant with amazing eats and drinks straight from central Europe. My Polish partner was beyond thrilled! The stuffed cabbage was unreal — beautifully spiced, perfectly cooked, rich and delicious. Absolutely recommend 🙂

My wife and I were looking to get away for a couple of days and decided on Astoria, based in large part to having heard about this restaurant. It exceeded its reputation in my estimation. There is no pretense here, just honest, succulent, authentic regional cooking lovingly made. The menu is small but still provided enough variety for two evenings of delicious food, along with regional wines. The pitas are especially good, as is the stuffed cabbage with meat. I could not recommend this place more highly for those interested in genuine regional cuisine. Be prepared for food that is authentically salty as well.

Portions so significant I returned thinking we had gone home with someone else’s food in addition to our take-out order. After they graciously clarified that everything was ours, the genuine (motherly) concern was that I wasn’t presently eating!

This restaurant is a hidden treasure of the city of Astoria. We’re visiting from Central California and it was a great experience to have dinner here. We split the Sopska salad, had the Sarma Sa Povrem and the Bosanski Gulas and Kafa after dinner. It was a wonderful meal and the setting was great. Our dinner here definitely will stand out as a high point of our vacation.
