As someone from Louisiana this is the saddest excuse for southern food I’ve EVER had. To start things off, they had only been open an hour yet, were out of two of the three sides we wanted. We opted for green beans but what we got were tasteless and sad snow peas?!?! I got a plate of pulled chicken with Mac and collard greens. The meat in the greens tasted old and lacked flavor, basically just green mush. The Mac and cheese was the biggest disappointment just noodles with hard cheese in spots, no amount of pepper was able to save it. My partner got the corn bread sandwich which sounded great but was executed poorly, the only good thing about it was that the brisket was cooked well but the overall dish was dry and flavorless… Surprise.
Also the baked beans are canned bushes beans with some brisket thrown on top. Overall a waste of money (51$) for two people Save your money and taste buds. 0/10 would not recommend
Sides were overpriced (4$) , see photos for size reference.

What a great place! We had delicious ribs, mustard potato salad, horseradish potato salad, and some yummy peach cobbler. We ate outside and got the chance to speak a bit with the fella who made the ribs so great. You could tell he really likes what he does which is why they taste so good! Definitely recommend this place!

This is good ole cooking at its best. Not a fast food joint. Meals are well worth the price and time. Family food not McDonald’s. Stop before heading south. Get your ice, wash the dog in ac, gas and bait all in one stop. Order ahead so ready when you get there.

As I trek through the area on trips I always ask the local community what BBQ places they recommend stopping at and giving a try. One of my favorite cuisines.
My inquiry in the Foley/Gulf Shores, AL area usually resulted in being told. “Down South BBQ, catch them while they’re open! They’re amazing”.
I decided to give them a shot on my way down to the beach. Boy, did they live up to the hype recommendations.
I got a Smoked Turkey sandwich (moist, tender, bursting with flavor) with Alabama White Sauce (rich, creamy, flavorful, spiced just right), and a side of horseradish potato salad that was absolutely out of this world.
If you’re in the area and looking for great bbq in the area and can “catch them while they’re open!” I 100% recommend stopping here. A+++ from this dude.

Stumbled across this gem while out looking for property. Pulled into a dusty, dirty parking lot to review our map of where to go next. Lo and behold, we look up and we’re sitting in front of down south barbecue!
Excellent, delicious, friendly! My husband and I shared the jalapeño griddle cake sandwich full of pulled pork and slaw. Ginormous! Of course you can’t leave a barbecue place without banana pudding.
Looking forward to returning again. Hard-working folks that are happy to serve you with delicious food.
Thank you down south for the delicious food, hospitality and friendly service. Kary & Tom

Happened to stop by here on the first day (Jan 19) they opened after being closed for a period of time-i imagine it was closed for the holidays. They are only open Wednesday thru Saturday as well. We had the turkey sandwich, chopped brisket sandwich and rib sandwich. The rib sandwich was $8+ while the turkey was about $5 and I can’t remember the cost of the brisket. The rib sandwich was actually three ribs on a bun with smaller bones. It was a little difficult to tear the meat off the bones and make a sandwich out of it. The turkey was cut very thin and reminded me of sliced meat you can get at the local grocery store although it did taste better. The brisket had a spice to it. The ribs and brisket were dry for my taste and the BBQ sauce was extremely runny so it didn’t help at least for me. Flavor was pretty good but the dryness was a little too much to overcome. They do have a covered sitting area and they only take cash or checks. It really is about a 3.5 on a scale of 5. Would I eat here again? Probably not. Would I go out of my way to eat here? Definitely not.

Only going to say this once…EAT HERE!! If you follow my suggestion that’s all it will take to hook you. The pics are of the Cornbread BBQ sandwich with jalapeno added. It’s quite filling and I usually need a nap afterwards so be forewarned. It’s VERY delicious.

This place is our #1spot for a pork BBQ. Great price, great service awesome pork. Also tried the brisket sandwich with sliced meat. Very tender but I’ll try the chopped brisket next time. It’s listed as #3 best BBQ in gulf shores but price & flavor makes it #1 for us.

Friendly mom & pop serving tasty BBQ manna — all meat slow-smoked outdoors over real wood. The “cornbread [BBQ pork] sandwich” was beyond generous and absolutely delicious! ($12 as of 2/22.) Fork-tender pancakes with jalapeños were just sweet enough. I recommend adding coleslaw….
