Today I was craving cheese enchiladas from somewhere with an authentic Mexican feel. Enter Dona Lencha. I stopped by at 7:30 on a Thursday and found it odd that they were only open until 8pm. Maybe staying open until 9 would be better. Also the menu is very long and hard to read. I am always weary of a restaurant with a large menu and hardly any customers. Today the cheese enchiladas were great. Service was good too. So for that 5 stars on my visit today. Advice to management less is more, stay open an hour later and keep doing what you’re doing.

The service was very good, the waitress was very friendly and did a very good job. However I ordered a salad, and it was imposible to eat with a fork. The lettuce was chopped so fine I even inhaled a piece by accident. The beef was chopped and over cooked. Who ever put the salad together did a good job, it looked very good. Everything was very well arranged. They also charge $2 for chips and dip, but at least they give beans. The tamales are good, not bad. They serve champurrado at a premium, but it’s ok.

For a work meeting this past week, a co-worker recommended getting food catered from Dona Lencha on Belt Line. I got an estimate and placed an order for combo (beef / chicken) fajitas, with rice and beans, for 15 people, along with chips and salsa. Also, a couple of people had special dietary needs and needed to avoid gluten and corn. We explained that to the person who took my order. Upon picking up my order, everything was ready on time and the employees helped carry the items to my car. They even prepared special salsa and beef for the people with the special dietary needs and, beyond that, wrote out what each dish contained so that they could be assured of what they could and could not eat. That was unexpected but greatly appreciated. Everyone enjoyed their lunch that day. Beyond that, there was so much food that many were able to take some home to enjoy again for a second meal.

Went there today for the first and last time. I should have visited bathroom first before ordering. It smelled like the sewer backed up in to the hallway. Service was good, meal was inexpensive but it just did not taste all that good to me. 2 stars is for the service and price. Otherwise, this is just bad. Mixed fajitas I had arrived very hot, but they did not have great flavor. Steak was chewy, chicken was actually hard on one side. Tortilla’s were the very small 4 inch variety. It could be that this is too authentic for me but I can’t see myself going back. I am not sure if I am going it stays down but my stomach definitely feels something “off” and it is not that I am full. If you like Tex Mex fajitas, this ain’t them. Runny beans, interesting? rice and for some reason lettuce and tomatoes? Not for me. No sour cream, no avocado, no cheese. I am probably too used to Tex Mex. It really looked appetizing as you can see from my photo but um…. NO!

This particular Dona Lencha has fallen by the wayside since first found about about it a couple years ago. Hadn’t been on this side of town in awhile so I decided to stop in and grab a few of the tacos I fell in love with years ago.

Pic doesn’t so it justice, but the cabeza and suadero tacos were amazing! I the Al pastor and bistec tacos my gf got were great as well. I would recommend sticking to the tacos, the grilled chicken was good but not the best Mexican chicken I’ve had. The tacos however were the best I’ve had in the area, as well as cheap and simple. We were there on Wednesday so they were only $1. Definitely worth trying

They have about 25 different tacos and I’ve had 20 of them at different times. Everything I have eaten has been great. The guisada, roasted chicken, pasole, are wonderful. The owner/manager is friendly and welcoming. The staff is attentive. Doesn’t hurt to know a little Spanish as this is authentic and not a chain despite having two locations nearby each other. Breakfast tacos to go are also outstanding and quick to grab prior to work or hitting the road.

This place has very awful food. Their horchata was pure water and barely tasted like any horchata. They even charged $2.99 for chips and salsa. I have never been to a place that charges for chips and salsa but I guess it’s normal at this place. Definitely not coming back and do not recommend at all.

Possibly I could have given it more stars, but we drove 45min to get there to eat, they recommended that it was very tasty food, when we arrived it was closed, they would open until January 18, 2023…
