I have had a couple things that were not good; the Kadhi Chawal and the Veg Pakora. I hadn’t ever had Kadhi Chawal before, so maybe it’s supposed to be like that, it just wasn’t for me. The onion potato dumplings in it were okay but the yogurt sauce was weird and off-putting. The Veg Pakora was a surprise because it’s good almost everywhere; but here it was flavorless, oily, and inedible. These two items almost lost them a star, but for everything else they do so well, they still deserve 5 stars…just maybe steer away from these two items.
Ordered a variety of dishes. The service was not much to mention as it’s just order and pickup yourself style.
Overall food was okay few of the dishes were tastier and few were oily.
Overall okay to visit if you are in hurry. Decent ambiance.
What I loved most about this place, besides the delicious food, was the menu, which included pictures that made it easy to see what you’re getting. The interior was modern and cool, yet still had an authentic vibe that made me feel like I was actually in India.
The food in the pictures cost around $50, and we also ordered their chai tea. We couldn’t finish everything, so we took the leftovers home. I highly recommend this spot for a snack or a quick lunch!
The place smelled good when I went in and I liked the décor. The guy working the conuter was more worried about the cricket game than providing good service tho. Also, their menu is a little odd, even for “street food.”
I tried the samosa chaat, which was solid and I also tried their keema. The keema had the incredible heat I wanted, but it came with odd dinner rolls as bread… Come on, this is far from authentic! No roti or chipati was available. The keema was also too gamey with lamb flavor, so it tasted like the lamb wasn’t treated right before being included in this dish – not impressed.
Overall, I can see this joint being popular with a bunch of unknowing locals, but for those of us who know to expect better… we expect better.
The restaurant’s environment is pleasant, but it may not be ideal for large groups. They have a couple of tables for four people, but most of the seating is designed for two.
While I enjoyed the Keema Dosa, my friend was not as pleased with the Meat Chawal, finding it unsatisfactory. The Chilli Chicken was also just average.
On the positive side, the prices are affordable, making it a good option for a budget-friendly meal.
The chicken in the chicken Marsala dosa was fall apart tender and the spices were spot on (I should have ordered it more spicy ️ – I got all the dishes medium) .
The Delhi chaat was AMAZING. If you like chaat don’t hesitate. Amazing on a warm day.
The chili chicken on the Chinese/Indian fusion portion of the menu was very much that. Sweetness of Chinese with the gooey sauce but with addition to Indian spices. Served with a BIG plate of the softest/ moist rice.
The atmosphere is great. I will agree with other reviewers that it probably isn’t the best spot for groups over 4. That’s not gonna stop me from getting some good food in my belly.
The service was awesome. It is very much like a deli service counter (order at the register and have a seat and try not to drool from the smells) service was fast. About 10 minutes give or take but they were not busy (3pm on a Monday). It was myself, a friend and another couple that came in behind us.
Sorry for the long review. Give this GEM a try!!
I ordered vegetable pakora and it was so fresh, delicate and delicious. The pakora here was the best that I have had in a couple of years. The Indian food here is the best that I have had in Asheville. Gluten-free options.
The food is served on a earth friendly, not styrofoam plate. Kind of like a TV dinner shaped tray. I only mention this because somebody talked about a styrofoam plate. It’s not the case there currently.
I ordered one dosa and shared the pecora with somebody. It was more than enough food for. I do like to eat a lot…
I will be back…
