From the moment I walked in, I was met with the most mediocre receptionist. I looked to him for guidance. Without even lifting his head, he pointed to the rear. My group and I sanitized our hands and grabbed a tray to discover sausage, powdered eggs, sausage gravy, and cinnamon apple slices. The person in front of me said I’ll have that horrible looking gravy. The person serving the gravy said it is in fact horrible. Gatorade and coffee for beverages as well as a small array of snacks like pop tarts and nutrigrain bars. The eggs okay, the sausage horrible, the gravy, decent, and the apple slices would have been better cold. All in all, I’d say this was a slightly lower tier experience than expected at your typical field DFAC.

When I first walked up to the establishment, I was surprised that there was no host/hostess at the door to greet us. Upon entering the second set of doors, there was no AC. It was hotter inside than outside. I got my powered eggs, which lacked water, so they were hard. My turkey bacon was barely cooked. When we sat down, the table from the people before was us really messy and dirty. There was also only one wayer container to get drinks from. There was also some random short lady screaming at everyone. Unfortunately, I will not be returning to this fine dining facility for the remainder of my stay at beautiful Fort Polk.

The steak dinner wasn’t terrible but the ice cream was melted by the time the waiter brought it to my table. Service was terrible, long lines regardless of having a reservation or not. The cooks were rude and refused to serve me my steak medium rare. They insisted on serving it well done. Though the peach flavored tea was exquisite.

I recently experienced a unique dining adventure at a military DFAC that, while lacking in artisanal or organic offerings, managed to captivate me with its oddly mesmerizing and delightfully toxic atmosphere. While the culinary options may not have been on par with gourmet standards, the endless entertainment and dinner shows provided an entertaining distraction that kept me thoroughly engaged. The lackluster selection of cocktails was a minor setback, but the fascinatingly stale air conditioning somehow added to the overall charm of the place. If you’re seeking an unconventional dining experience filled with hypnotic entertainment and an atmosphere that’s refreshingly stagnant, this DFAC is a must-visit.

If you hate yourself and enjoy eating like a prisoner then look no further. Bland and flavorless food with emotionless service is the key to their success here.

You ever go somewhere and make decisions on how sick you are willing to be? Well, welcome to Ft. Polk. Between the hamburger patties that are harder than hockey pucks and the grittiest powdered eggs in the U.S. Army, whatever decision you make will ultimately end in sadness. Don’t come here… just dont. Go eat the garbage Pizza Hut down the road.
