We had dinner here the other night. They have a nice parking lot across the street and the atmosphere is retro industrial, I guess you could say. I had a dirty martini (Kettle One and olive juice) which was one of the best I’ve ever had. I also had the garlic mussels with the garlic bread that came with it and that was one of the best versions of that meal I’ve ever eaten in my life. I am serious. Everyone in Our group enjoyed their meals. Our waiter was very nice and the DeCarlos are really nice people as well. The only reason it gets a 4-star instead of 5 is unfortunately because it’s in Reading. However if more places like this start popping up and continue this level of excellence, Reading might get back on the map as a place to be! I highly recommend giving it a try.

I love this place! I’ve been here a few times and I’m always surprised at how good the food is. Seriously it’s really really good!!!! Service is good too. Plus, they have parking. If you’re in Reading I would recommend stopping here. Definitely try the onion rings they’re the best I’ve ever had. Everything else in the menu that I tried was excellent as well. Wings, cheese steaks, shrimp night, all awesome!!

I was traveling through reading and was looking for a bite to eat, sitting at a red light I spotted DeCarlos. Looked like a nice place from outside so I decided to try it out. As I sat at the bar I noticed some of the regulars(I can only assume because they seemed very comfortable there) were staring at me, like what are you doing in here. Anyway, bartender asks me what I want and I say a PBR. She pours it, gives it to me and says 2 dollars. Ok, another sign I’m not welcome, what bar makes you pay for your first drink when you have a menu in your hand? Next she says, Are you gonna order food?!? Definitely with a tone to her question that, once again, made me feel unwelcome. I tell her I may order later. As I sat and enjoyed my PBR there was some dude in the corner just sitting there staring at me, like what’s up dude? I couldn’t tell who was a customer and who was an employee because everyone just seemed to walk behind the bar at their own free will. I finished my beer, tipped and bounced. I found another restaurant up the road that was extremely inviting, good beer, excellent food and a nice diverse clientele that all seemed to feel welcomed, happy, eating and drinking with big smiles on their face. Hey DeCarlos if you want a private social club, then make it that way. A bunch of dudes hanging around mean mugging people isn’t good for business. Makes me think there’s other things going on in this place other than food and drinks.
