This review is limited to the bar area and service, we did not eat at the restaurant. When you live in cattle country Texas, the lure of an expensive steak dinner in the. Caribbean is not tempting! LOL We stopped by D&J’s several times during a recent stay in Cruz Bay, STJ. It was right next to our hotel, which made it the perfect location for happy hour (before dinner elsewhere) and a night cap.

The only negative of the bar was its street-side location. Traffic is literally just a few feet away, on a fairly busy street. That said, we had great, fun, friendly servers every visit. Nice drinks menu, and bartenders are great with the cocktails. I did have the escargot during happy hour, it was very good! Definitely worth a stop for cocktails here, nice happy hour food specials!

The food was outstanding!!! We had boneless New York strip steak with Oscar lump crab meat and asparagus with hollandaise sauce. The other patron had duck confit with crispy Brussel sprouts and sweat potato gnocchi. The price is worth the meal. The only negative thing I have to share was the wait staff. They never once asked us how we liked our meal nor for drink refills. We had to ask them for it and seemed like we were putting them out. Maybe because we were only drinking Coke and water and not an expensive wine or cocktail, I don’t know. Would still go back and still highly recommend it.

We meet the manager Nick on the flight in to St. Thomas. He told us they had the best steak on St. John. I was skeptical, but this place did not disappoint. From the street, it’s an unassuming bar and it didn’t seem we were about to have the best steak on the island. But the dining area was partitioned off by a barn door and kept us well-isolated from the street and bar scene. The inside was nicely decorated and had a quiet ambiance. My wife had the filet oscar-style and I had the wagyu filet with creamed spinach. Both were excellent and perfectly cooked. Nick knew we were celebrating an anniversary and went out of his way to make it a great night. Highly recommended.

Who has a good experience with your Reservation confirmation? This restaurant! Loved each person I talked to and every person who greeted us in the door.
We seriously loved this place for food and drinks and serbice.
The appetizers: salad & soup to die for
The entrees: all the wet & dry aged steaks for delicious dinner. Every steak was seriously cooked to perfection & the sides were all amazing. We tried: filet, the tomahawk, ribeye, surf n turf & lobster was phenomenal.
The dessert was amazing – the Lemon tart was my fave. The pineapple crumble was killer & the chefs special ice cream was awesome wth the snickerdoodle cookie
Thanks to Karen, Michael and the entire amazing crew at Dave & Jerry’s for our awesome experience

We arrived at 5pm, without a reservation and were almost turned away. Apparently we needed one and my wife was wrong. The hostess spoke to someone out back and they agreed to seat my party.
When the wine and food began to arrive, we were nothing short of amazed. From the filet to the ribeye to the tomahawk ribeye, every single bite was better than the last.
Lest we forget the vegetables that were cooked to absolute perfection.
Our server was delightful and helpful, guiding us through making some pairings for our selections, ensuring we had an optimal dining experience.
In the end, this was the best meal I’ve ever had… ever. Bravo.

We met Jerry! But the dinner was lit by Gina, the best waitress of the year.
At any rate, the food was excellent. The pre-appetizer sorbet, the house-made super-soft bread and butter, the octopus dish with sausage and nicely thick cut fries (goes with “banana ketchup”, which feels like sweet/sour sauce with stronger ginger taste) were all very good. Both my hubby and me ordered fish dishes, tuna and mahi-mahi. Interestingly, the chef used a local green “angle beans” with mahi-mahi. I never had that veggie before. It was a dark green, tiny leaves around thick stem and no bean. Crunchy and nicely flavored.

In 2022, upon recommendation from staff at our hotel (Cruz Bay Boutique Hotel), my husband and I ordered the dry-aged steak burger. (Available during their “happy hour”). This was our first meal on the island and it did NOT disappoint! Our waiter recommended adding manchego cheese (additional cost) and oh my! This buttery cheese perfected the burger! The herbed steak fries and chipotle aioli were to die for! The staff was very friendly and attentive. We enjoyed the atmosphere -we sat at the outside bar that faces the street. We talked about this burger all year and came back for a 2nd one in 2023! We will be back!

The complimentary mango sorbet and bread with sweet butter were a wonderful way to start the meal. The steaks were cooked perfectly and the French fries were delicious. Unfortunately, the rest of the meal wasn’t as good. The lobster tail ($60) was overcooked and underseasoned. The shrimp curry was soso and the rum punch was a little bitter. Overall, good but not great. Service was inconsistent.

This was a lovely restaurant with delicious food and impeccable service from Maria. She was extremely friendly and knowledgeable of the menu. We had the charcuterie plate, Chicken, Duck and Pineapple Crumble. Everything was incredibly delicious. Oh, and you’ll need a reservation.
