Came here on a grey afternoon looking for some lunch and a coffee pick me up with my girlfriend (she was dying to bring me here). I thought it would be dead, but to my surprise it was still pretty busy! Its a small little place, but still a few options to sit down and eat or just sip your java. Bonus points for excellent music choice, very indie singer/songwriter style that made for a nice relaxing atmosphere.

Starting with the reason you’re probably going here, the coffee. I got a peanut butter latte, and my girlfriend got one of their winter seasonal choices in the ginger bread latte. both served hot. The PB was very smooth and lightly sweet, but the ginger bread one in my opinion takes home the trophy this time.

As for lunch we did their sandwich/wrap and a salad combo, which as far as I am concerned is the best deal I’ve ever seen, Panera eat your heart out. I got the buffalo chicken wrap with a side caesar salad, and my girlfriend got the fig & brie sandwich, with a side peach and avocado salad. The buffalo wrap was nice and light with grilled chicken and a buffalo sauce that seemed almost more like a vinaigrette and the caesar was about as classic as it gets. The fig and brie was an unexpected plus for me and eats almost like a caprese sandwich, while the peach and avocado salad was super fresh, fruit in salad doesn’t quite do it for me personally, so we split the trophy for our lunches.

Parking is pretty ample with spots both in the front and the back of the attached lot, but be careful when you’re pulling up the first time, you’re bound to miss it, I know I almost did!

Recently opened (~6 weeks ago)… The enthusiasm and attentiveness of the team is refreshing and the delightful interior design accounted for a great experience overall. They need to dial-in their food preparation a bit.

My light roast coffee was enjoyable – tasted freshly brewed and had good body and depth of flavor for a light roast.

My maple bacon avocado toast looked appealing but the bread was very under-toasted feeling like doughy white bread. The avocados were ripe and green, and bacon was balanced with crispness and chewiness with a sweet maple syrup drizzle.

I got a cup of hot chocolate to go (loved that they use whole milk instead of water!). When I got home, the whipped cream had melted, revealing the cup was only about 2/3 full. My wife was a little disappointed and would have preferred more hot chocolate with less room for the whipped cream.

These are not deal killers for me as they are easily remedied. I’d return to try it again. Great team, atmosphere and coffee. They just need to make some adjustments to the food systems.

Very nice atmosphere with a relaxing, modern design, and nice background music. The service was pleasant and friendly, my order was prepared quickly, brought out to our table, and cleared right away.

The classic avocado toast was delicious and presented well. Topped with lightly dressed mixed greens, additional sliced avocado, and pickled red onions. With the added over easy egg, it was a perfect combo.

We will definitely be back. Try it if you haven’t.

Love their new location Port Jeff! The team is pleasant, the coffee is great with a lot of great options. Everything we have tried from the food menu has been good. They even ran a gift card special when closed due to a storm which I thought was very thoughtful and creative.

This spot is incredible and the service is way above most coffee spots! A member of the staff noticed I finished my coffee and came by with a complementary water which was most appreciated. My latte was the perfect temperature and the ratio of milk to espresso didn’t dilute the complex flavor of the espresso. The space has plenty of tables for working, but also lounging chairs and couches for relaxing.

A great new addition to Port Jeff. Easily the friendliest and most attentive staff in the area. Coffee is really good, although I’ve only had the drip. I still give the nod to South Down for my favorite drip in PJ though. Food wise, everything is delicious and has a great presentation. Hot items like soup could be hotter in my opinion. Stop in and check it out, highly recommended!

Such a good spot, the seating arrangements fill up fast so just get here early if you want a comfy spot vs a table! Food drinks and service are amazing especially for a new spot. One thing I would add is additional outlets – for anyone that wants to work or study from here!

Great coffee shop for breakfast. Attentive staff, good food, good coffee, good atmosphere. I don’t go to big chain types of places, prefer to give my money to locally owned with local feel. Will be a regular stop.

I live five minutes from Dark Horse in Sayville. It’s become my regular spot and the kind of place you fold into your routine without even thinking about it. So when Tim and Dre opened a second location in Port Jeff, a solid 30-minute drive for me, I went in hoping it would feel like an extension of what they built in Sayville.

It does. And then some.

This isn’t just another coffee stop. It’s a café in the true sense of the word: a place with gravity. You walk in and you want to stay. The Port Jeff space is genuinely beautiful… warm light, thoughtful design, room to breathe… but it’s not “decor.” It feels lived-in, intentional, and human. Like it was built for conversations not eat and get out.

And that comes back to Tim and Dre. These aren’t owners who slap their name on the sign and disappear. You can feel how dedicated they are… in the way the place run and all the details. But most importantly in the care behind the food and drink. It has soul and that’s not an accident.

The shroom latte is the real deal… earthy, smooth, and oddly comforting. Not a trend-chasing gimmick. And the bacon, egg, and cheese is exactly what you want it to be: hot, salty, satisfying, made by someone who understands that simple food done right is a small kind of magic.

Sayville is my neighborhood spot. Port Jefferson is my “I’ll gladly drive for this” spot. That’s the highest compliment I can give.
