Dan’s Hamburgers on North Lamar in Austin is a veritable time capsule that will take you right back to the feels of the 1960’s and 1970’s. Starting with the crowded parking lot, then the entry area with the double doors to keep the flies and heat out. To the local accolades and articles as you enter you can feel yourself transporting. Then the classic burger smells hit you and you have a moment where you are confused and bewildered at the sight if it all. The counter clerks will take your order from a very simple menu – we often don’t realize or recall how refreshing it can be to only have a few basic menu choices. The tables, chairs, flooring and even bathrooms will make you feel as if you are eating lunch on the set of a classic 70’s tv show like the Rockford Files or Happy Days. The hamburgers and cheeseburgers are basic and fantastic at the same time. The french fries also hit that classic texture and taste great. Now, after you have soaked up all this tradition and time travel you have to get back in that order line and call up an ice cream shake, to complete the deal, grab a spoon because these shakes are extra thick. Hangout in the ambience while finishing that shake and enjoy a little local color as you watch all the neighborhood characters come and go. If you miss the old Austin, take a trip back in time and go visit Dan’s hamburgers.

Love my Dan’s burgers! When ever I get a chance, i like to go early in the morning to enjoy a good breakfast. The burgers are awesome everytime, but I do miss when they use to have the large burger. Friendly staff, always clean. If it’s not this Dan’s then the other ones I go to also…even the one in Buda which looks like a 50s diner, but need to play some oldies then.

Dan’s hamburgers! Been an Austin original for over 50 years. It’s been a while since I’ve eaten here, but it still had the same look and feel and was packed with customers. The onion rings were great and the curly fries were good too. We ordered the cheeseburgers and they were really tasty. My daughter ordered the chicken strip sandwich. She wanted a chicken sandwich, but they didn’t have one although they said they could create one for her. She didn’t like it. They were traditional chicken strips and they were hard and dried out. All three strips. We were really disappointed in this. Overall, this place is good, but on our last visit I can’t say it’s great.

Ordered a cheeseburger with fries. This is the type of burgers I like. Simple and tasty, what more could you ask for. The fries were also just plain fries fried well. This place has been around for a while, so they must be doing something right. It’s definitely a place I will be visiting again when I’m in Austin.

I usually stop here for breakfast before work. I stopped by this week for some tacos. I called in the order and spoke with Trinicia(?) who was so polite. When I got to the store for pick up she wiped so big and handed me my bag. She said she looked at the Caller ID whenever she took my order and took the time to spell out my name correctly, which I don’t know if any restaurant has ever done for me. I thanked her so much. She made my day and the tacos were delicious! Keep up the awesome service and attention to detail, I’ll always come back!

Best good ol fashion cheeseburger! Angus Beef on top of it too! Greatly affordable compared to other burger joints. Stopped to eat here in our way to the Chris Brown concert. First time here and won’t be the last. We order their two cheeseburgers, small curly fries and small onion rings. All of it was seasoned to perfection! Fries were not made in house but the onion rings were. You get free drink refills! They have an affordable menu with sizable portions. Hard to find nowadays. Food was fresh, hot, and delicious! Service was friendly and efficient. Restaurant was clean, plenty of seating (booth or chair options), and included waiting benches for to-go orders. Looking forward to coming back to Dans! Can’t believe I never been here before.
