No birthday is complete without cupcakes from Cupcake A La Mode. They have fun monthly flavors, but the regular selection is delicious as well. I have ordered them for events and always get compliments. I’ve even special ordered birthday cakes. Favorites include the French Vanilla, Strawberries and Cream, and ChocoLatte (that one has a chocolate covered espresso bean on top). I like that you can special order how they are decorated to fit your needs.

First time trying this shop, we got two cupcakes to go and carefully carried them back to our hotel room. When we opened the box the icing on one of the cupcakes had melted off and it was a giant mess. Not sure if they may have iced a slightly warm cupcake? $12 for two cupcake raises my standards and I would expect better. They did taste fresh though!

Cupcake À La Mode on the Kansas City Plaza is simply the best. I’ve been getting cupcakes from here for over 10 years, and the quality, flavor, and service have been consistently amazing every single time. The cupcakes are always fresh, beautifully decorated, and absolutely delicious with so many great flavor options to choose from.

I ordered a cake from here recently and was very disappointed. I’ve ordered cakes from here for years and have never had one this ugly and so far from the picture I sent it was unbelievable, it was supposed to say 21 years later…. Instead I got this mess. Not to mention this was the most expensive cake I’ve bought so far. I do not recommend to anyone

I have been enjoying Cupcake A La Mode for more than 16 years. I have tried many cupcakes from different bakeries in KC and none are as good. My family’s favorites are the Amaretto Sweet, Gold Digger and Nutella Bella! Cupcake A La Mode also makes extraordinarily scrumptious traditional layer cakes. I can’t wait to get my next cupcake!

Very cute atmosphere! But, not-so-great cupcakes. For $5.50, we expected more flavor and better quality. We both commented on how our daughter’s birthday cupcakes from the grocery store tasted better. We got the choco latte cupcake – the icing just tasted like sugar. There were no forks for eating and we had to scoop it up with a knife. We didn’t even finish it and we threw it away.
The store girl was not friendly and took a while to greet us after we rang the greeting bell twice. Someone else came in after us and rang the bell multiple times and even had to poke her head through the employee door to get someone’s attention. We wanted to like this place, but we will not be returning.
The other 1-star reviews are totally accurate despite the unprofessional owner’s responses. If we hadn’t sat down to eat the cupcake there, this lopsided icing work would have easily slipped off the cake from just walking to the car.

Previous owners were fabulous❤️ The shop was cute and pink and clean. Cupcakes were to die for❤️ I talked my husband into stopping on our way back from the lake because I was craving one of the Salted Caramel Cupcakes (amazing) and it had been a few years since I had been in. This once beautiful shop is now a dirty/gross/disgusting place. I decided to order four (I don’t know what I was thinking). No caramel. I placed my order, held onto the cupcake box, with both hands, and walked 50 steps to my car, sat them in my lap, stopped at friends house in St Joe and this is what they looked like!!!! Frosting was dry. Cake was semi moist ~ like they had set out, uncovered for several days. I took a bite out of each one and spit it out. We will never go back. Sad because this place (obviously different owners) was my all time favorite cupcake shop.
The reply from Cupcake Ala Mode said my picture was an old picture so I decided to take a picture of my bank statement to prove that my posted picture was NOT AN OLD PICTURE. And the countertop ~ was at my friends house in St Joe. I am from Iowa. And no door dash. Their response is unprofessional. Too many bad reviews/complaints (not that many people with consistently the same complaints are wrong). And we know NO ONE in KC ~ let alone this store. Do better Cupcake Ala Mode.

I’m not sure what’s going on with the most recent reviews of this place, but my experience has been completely different. We have been purchasing these cupcakes for several years now, and they have never been disappointing. They are beautifully decorated and taste delicious.

Every time I visit Kansas City, I have taking back cupcakes to my friends and family from cupcake ala mode I heard they had new ownership dropped by and was appalled of what I saw. These are the most ugly cupcakes I have ever purchased. The store looks in ruins nothing like it did before. What a shame. They asked me if I wanted a bag and gave me a Walmart bag. What is going on this used to be a beautiful cupcake shop full of hand decorated cupcakes placed in a beautiful, hot pink box and kraft bag with stickers. Such a great presentation to bring to someone. This is horrible. I’ll never come back. This is not what it used to be. So disappointed!
