Social Profile:

Reigning over Back Bay and The Boston Public Garden, Contessa is the crown jewel of dining atop one of Boston’s most glamorous hotels, The Newbury Boston. Delightfully re-imagined, this rooftop destination is inspired by the old-world resorts of Europe and the lasting estates of Italy where classic grand trattoria cuisine awaits. Designed like a conservatory with a glass roof and retractable panels for open air dining, the rooftop space feels like a “garden in the sky” where diners relax in a sun-soaked room for breakfast, lunch, or brunch or take in the sunset and starry skies over cocktails and dinner. Designed by Ken Fulk, Contessa is the latest culinary destination from hospitality powerhouse, Major Food Group.

Italian-inspired cuisine, brunch & wine offered in an opulent rooftop restaurant with city views.

Came as a party of four for brunch on a Saturday morning. We made a reservation ahead of time for five and had to amend it a week before, which had to be done over email, but the person I corresponded with was nice and quick.

We spent a fantastic evening here to celebrate my commencement. The decor and the view are so beautiful that I cannot imagine anywhere else to celebrate this special day. The service is impeccable and food is amazing. The price is quite reasonable too. Worth a try!

Great spot, especially for special occasions. Food was superb and service was friendly. Loved the squash carpaccio and meatballs. Drinks were good, too, but why $22 when most if not all cocktails elsewhere in the city are $14-$16? That’s my biggest issue with this place.

Stunning views, exceptional service, and fabulous menu…this is THE Prettiest restaurant in all of Boston! My waitress, Rachel was so kind and informative of the menu and what to order and Megan and Shante’ were so kind to take good care of me in a very short visit! Grab a drink at the bar, on the rooftop and savor the most stunning views of the city!

Had a great experience with dinner! The Spritz and Sgroppino were the best drinks hands down! The octopus was nothing like I’ve had before. It was a little crunchy on the outside and soft on the inside which I’ve never had with octopus before! The Tonnato was delicious, it’s raw tuna with artichoke and it was divine. If you’re going to get dessert you HAVE to get the olive oil gelato!! I know it sounds weird but oh my, it was amazing. Overall a great experience and will definitely be going back

Went for dinner for a friend’s farewell party. If you are only after the lovely view and ambiance then Contessa is the place to be! Order wine instead of cocktail, the extensive wine list is better than the subpar cocktails they serve.

I have been to Contessa a handful of times, usually for a special occasion. The views here are spectacular, so if you are visiting Boston for the first time or just want to see the city from an elegant perch, don’t even blink when making your reservation. Guests are greeted with Richard Ginori porcelain dishes, soft lighting and a table lamp, and comfortable seating. The maximalist, palatial interior design is paired with an extensive wine list. You can find innovative dishes like squash carpaccio here, as well as standard Italian staples like burrata. I might even suggest ordering the carbonara for the table! We split it and were glad we did – our table of four was able to enjoy it without committing to a whole (generous) order of pasta per person.

One of our date night favorites, and once again it did not disappoint. A friend had highly recommended their squash carpaccio which I couldn’t have been more skeptical of but decided to trust her. Oh My Goodness! It will now be on every order when I return. The spicy lobster cappelini is a classic and was delicious. We also enjoyed the ricotta & veal Milanese – both also outstanding though I’d have to say still rank the Milanese at Faccia & Pammys higher. Their Negroni sbagliatto was the exact touch of refreshing we were looking for! Cannot wait to come back

Had high expectations going here to celebrate an anniversary. I wish we hadn’t. Server had no passion or attention to detail. The menu felt uninspired. Drinks were good though and the view is one of the absolute best in the city. Bottom line: I felt like we had a bad value and a forgettable experience. Maybe my expectations were too high from the outset.
