Coin des Poètes is one of those rare cafés that immediately feels like a secret you’re lucky to have found. It’s warm, quirky, and full of character — the kind of place where you can lose track of time in the best way.
The atmosphere is unmatched: bright teal walls, shelves lined with coffee beans and pastries, little handwritten menus, and even a piano tucked in the corner. But the standout feature is the chess setup. They’ve got boards ready to go, a wall-sized chess display, and a vibe that makes you want to sit down with a latte and play a few rounds. Whether you’re a casual player or someone who brings your own openings repertoire, this is a perfect spot.
The barista was friendly, the coffee was excellent, and the space feels both lived-in and artistic — like a neighborhood café that actually has personality, not just branding.
If you’re looking for a place to hang out, read, play chess, or just enjoy a warm cup of something good, Coin des Poètes is a gem. Highly recommend if you’re in the area.

I really enjoyed this cute little cafe in the Adam’s Morgan area of Washington DC! I went two mornings in a row and loved both of the crepes I chose. It’s a great grab n’ go spot or you could definitely come and hang out for a bit. It’s small, so I wouldn’t bring a huge group of people but I could definitely see it being my new go to-place!

Came across this absolute gem in Adams Morgan on my writing day. Coin des Poetes, or the Poet’s Honor is a space that honors that which inspires the individual heart and passions. The owner’s passion, for example, is chess. And I could tell as he described chess pieces from around the world on display for players to enjoy a game or two! And we talked about my passion for living in and learning other cultures…of course over a delicious Nutella and strawberries crepe! Good times!

This place is fantastic. I had three Marie Antoinette and three Versailles. The owner Paris made them himself, with the help of Grace. The crepes were SO GOOD, 10/10! The customer service was amazing, it was raining and cold outside and they were kind enough to offer a complimentary tea.
Best crepes in the DMV hands down. Will definitely come back.

I’d recommend for anyone looking just for a coffee shop to hang out, a shop to just have game night with friends, host a paint and sip or something fun like that.

Everything was fantastic! French Breakfast crepe with butter and lemon is a gem. I enjoyed the atmosphere and service as well. Definitely will come back when in DC again.

I love when you take a chance on a small “off-the-path” place on a trip and it’s a home run. As a francophile and finicky crepe lover, I admit I was skeptical, but honestly the crepe really was superb. Just the right amount of crispy and just the right amount of filling. My coffee was a REAL macchiato (not the Starbucks variant) and all our drinks were made with love. Although the staff was friendly and attentive, their limited production bandwidth meant slow and not simultaneous delivery of our crepes. Part of that is definitely a trade-off of quality for speed, however, and we were there to sit and converse, so not a problem for our group. Just something to keep in mind of you’re in a hurry. They got pretty busy while we sat there, as the regulars filtered in. It’s easy to see any they would have a lot of loyal customers.

I came here today after passing by many times and having it on my mini-bucket list for a while. I’m so happy I did! The atmosphere is just lovely – small and inviting, very cozy, and full of character and charm. I ordered a coffee and the classic “French Kiss” crepe and not only was it delicious, the “baker” (not sure what you actually call a crepe-maker) explained the crepe-making process while he was making it. I felt like I got a mini cooking class. Chess players will be very happy here as there’s a chessboard and the opportunity to play. While I was there, the owner was playing a game with a customer and explaining the strategy of the game, which I thought was a really lovely touch. Apparently they also have a chess club. What really stood out to me here was the friendly, cozy, neighborhood feel that is sadly slowly disappearing across DC, and the pride that the owner and employees clearly feel in their business, which is increasingly rare as everything becomes a chain with beige walls. I am already excited to be back and highly recommend Coin des Poetes if you’re looking for a place with good coffee, crepes and character.

I cannot speak for the crepes here, I have never had one. However, the coffee is very good and I love the vibes here! Great music was playing and I was completely alone in the small indoor seating area. There is also ample seating outside during warmer weather.

This is a solid spot for espresso drinks to stay or take out. Check it out!

I discovered this delightful little taste of “Paris” today en route to the nearby UPS store and am intending to become a regular. Friendly, wonderful staff, creative vibe and superb coffee & crepes. “La vie de bohème” is alive & well here in Adams Morgan.
