We had an absolutely wonderful experience at Circa 1922! From the moment we arrived, everything was seamless. The hostess was warm and attentive, and we were seated right on time for our reservation. The ambiance was inviting and perfect for a night out.
Our waitress, Alison, was impeccable. She was kind, funny, incredibly attentive to detail, and genuinely personable. She truly elevated our entire experience.
The drinks were delicious and expertly crafted. For appetizers, we ordered the crab dip (which was amazing!) and the calamari, perfectly seasoned and cooked just right.
For our entrées, I had the filet, and it was cooked to absolute perfection. My husband ordered the duck, it was very good, just a bit fattier than he prefers, which was more about the cut than the preparation. Our friends ordered the flounder and a seafood platter (I can’t remember the exact name), and she said it was the best flounder she’s had in a very long time!
We chose Circa 1922 on a whim and are so glad we did. Highly recommend and we’ll definitely be back!

We dined at Circa for New Year’s Eve and had mixed feelings about the experience. The menu was well planned and accurately reflected the dishes that were served, and the food itself was good—this was definitely the highlight of the night and deserves credit.

The drinks, however, were average and nothing out of the ordinary. For my personal taste, they were made a bit too strong and lacked balance.

We made a 10:00 PM reservation specifically hoping to ring in the New Year at the restaurant, as many places offer a midnight toast or some form of celebration. Unfortunately, we were informed during the evening that the restaurant would be closing at 11:30 PM. This left us scrambling right before midnight, surrounded by intoxicated crowds downtown, which was not the experience we had planned or expected.

To add to that, our waitress seemed rushed throughout the night and repeatedly mentioned needing to be home by midnight. Because of this, the service felt hurried, and I didn’t even finish my second drink.

Overall, I was disappointed with the NYE experience. While the food quality was good, the lack of celebration, early closing, and rushed service made this a night I wouldn’t choose to repeat for a special occasion like New Year’s Eve.

Great ambiance, great service, and a wonderfully knowledgeable waiter who walked us through the menu with confidence and enthusiasm. We started with some awesome local oysters, the tuna tataki, the burrata, and the crispy Brussels sprouts (the other appetizer!) — all of which were fantastic. Everything tasted incredibly fresh and perfectly prepared.
For entrées, the paella was honestly some of the best I’ve ever had — rich, thick sauce, tons of finely chopped chorizo, and scallops cooked to absolute perfection. The filet was also cooked perfectly: extremely tender, melt-in-your-mouth, and packed with flavor.
Dessert was top-notch as well. Highly recommend the cheesecake and the bread pudding — both were outstanding and the perfect finish to the meal.
If you’re visiting the area and looking for fine dining, you have to go here. Highly, highly recommend Circa 1922.

I want to preface this by saying we had an unfortunate start to our meal. There was seemingly an issue between the staff and another table, and it took a long while to be greeted and taken care of. Not to the fault of our waitress and the other staff, but we did start off on the wrong foot. However, it was made right by the staff with some different items to try, and a free round of drinks so thankful to the experience to end on a much more positive note. Our waitress Dana, and the Service Manager Jenna were wonderful.

After a bit of a rough start, we got started with drinks and their pre fix menu. Like other good restaurants in town, a pairing of signature cocktails to go along with the food is welcome. I thought the drinks were a good accompaniment – I would definitely go back for the “Honey I’m Home”, a good old fashioned type drink with warm ginger.

The salads that come with the pre fix are HUGE, so be careful not to fill up on that before your meal. Both the Cesar and the Mixed Lettuces were quite good, and a nice start to the meal.

The salmon was perfectly cooked with an incredible crust, and because of the seasonal menu we were treated to a gratin that had some variety of potato’s, carrots, onions with a mustard base sauce that rounded out the dish well.

The butternut squash ravioli was a little of a gamble, not that I feared that it would be bad – more I was cautious since it seemed much different than the other menu items. I was very happy to get this item though because the brown butter sauce was incredible. The squash purée was soft, and the ravioli had perfect bite to it. Served with pieces of fried herbs gave the dish nice pops of crunch. A nicely well rounded dish.

Lastly, we ended with the Lavender Honey Pot De Crème, and the Blood Orange sorbet.
While the sorbet was good (it’s sorbet how could it not?), the star for me was the Pot De Crème which, think of the Crème without the Brûlée, but infused with just enough lavender to be floral, and a nice sweetness from the honey. I am a sucker for custard, and this one was great.

A great experience in the end, and I look forward to sharing another meal with them in the future. Thanks to the wait staff for making everything right, and thanks to the chefs for delicious food.

Soooo. I am quick to give a review when I have a good experience. Tonight was my 2nd time visiting Circa 1922. I’ve been to 4 High End restaurants this week.
This was my best meal by far. I ordered the Paella without chorizo because I don’t eat pork. The manager, Jenna came to me directly and said we can do that! She was working hard tonight because..as Wilmington just had a historical snowstorm… Some people couldn’t make it into work but I digress… This was one of the best paella dishes I ever had. Rice was cooked to perfection, the seafood was fresh and to her testament everything was extra spicy as I like it. I can’t leave out Matt the bartender because he was serving great drinks and recommended the best red Blend wine, Involuntary Commitment to go with dinner. Such a great experience. Service was wonderful. I always need to include that we were the only African Americans in the restaurant at this moment and we were served with the best professionalism and service.

We had a great experience for dinner here and great service from our server Gage.

I highly recommend the Mushroom Bruschetta. Delicious cheesy bruschetta topped with roasted mushrooms. Great appetizer. I got the Halibut for dinner and enjoyed it tremendously. The halibut was perfectly cooked and the sauce for the dish is simply delicious.

Wonderful service from the time we arrived. Our server explained the menu well including rotating options. He brought an extra bread appetizer for our 6 year old son who clearly loved the bread. We ordered the eggrolls and tuna tataki appetizers, scallops and filet mignon entrees, and a key lime cocktail. All food was excellent! Also, really enjoyed the pianist. Will be back

This is one of my favorite restaurants, so I decided to celebrate my birthday here.

My husband and I selected from the Prix Fixe menu. We both ordered the Caesar salad. I ordered the pork Milanese and he ordered the Bolognese.

The salads were huge! We could have easily shared one. It was delicious. My pork Milanese was outstanding! It was a large cut, nicely breaded (not thick in breadcrumbs), topped with arugula, tomatoes, parmesan cheese, and a remoulade. It was one of the best Milanese I’ve ever had. The Bolognese is always a hit and favorite too.

For dessert, we had the mini crème Brule and mini peanut butter mousse.

Codi provided very nice service.

Cocktails are pricey. We were waiting at the bar for our table, as we got there a little early. The bartender said they ranged $16 to $18 (prices not posted on the menu). That’s a little high, so I waited to order a glass of sparkling wine at dinner.

The place was pretty full. I love the atmosphere of the place.

We had an excellent time at Circa. We have lived in the Greater Wilmington area for 3 years now and this is our first visit. We will definitely be back. All of the food was extremely well done. They were accommodating for our children and were very quick with our orders for how busy they were. The place itself has a fantastic aesthetic. The piano player arrived about halfway through the meal and added an amazing feel to the atmosphere.
