At approximately 6:45–7:00 p.m., I arrived at the Chipotle on Nine Mile. After waiting in line for about ten minutes to get through only two people ahead of me, I was able to order my bowl with brown rice, black beans, fajita veggies, and chicken. After the young gentleman scooped out the chicken, I did a double take as it looked less than the normal 4 oz portion of chicken customers are supposed to receive. I know this because I regularly measure chicken on a scale when counting calories. What was in my bowl was not close to 4 oz.
The gentleman then asked if I would like anything else, which is when I asked for a little bit more chicken because the portion looked light. He responded, “Oh, you want a double portion of chicken?” I said no, I just wanted a little more since it didn’t look like 4 oz. He replied, “Oh, I can’t do that,” and passed the bowl to the young woman down the line. I asked for salsa and lettuce and again asked for a little more chicken since there was hardly anything close to 4 oz. I don’t know if she actually heard me, but she proceeded to put the lid on and slide it to the cashier.
When the cashier asked if I wanted anything else, I asked for a side of sour cream and, for the third time, requested a little more chicken because the portion looked light. Thankfully, she was able to fulfill the request and gave me a side container with a little more chicken. I then left the store to eat my bowl at home.
To make sure I wasn’t imagining things, I used my kitchen scale and scooped out every piece of chicken from my bowl after zeroing out the weight of the kitchen bowl. The total came to 2.5 oz — well short of the 4 oz portion Chipotle lists. I then weighed the “extra” portion of chicken, which came out to 1.4 oz, still under 4 oz, total.
This was my first time at this location, and it was not a great experience. Ultimately, I left with close to the standard portion of chicken, but I shouldn’t have had to ask three times for the correct amount. Employees need to know what the standard portion size actually is and not immediately tell a customer they “can’t” receive it.
They were out of fajita vegetables and refused to prepare more, despite having over two hours left before closing. These aren’t specialty or low-demand items—they’re a core part of the menu, especially for customers who don’t eat meat.
Running out is one thing. Refusing to restock with that much time left is another. It felt like the staff had already decided to “soft close,” prioritizing early cleanup over customer service.
For a brand that positions itself as a reliable option for plant-based and vegetable-focused meals, this location severely misses the mark. If you’re advertising plant-forward food, vegetables should be available until closing time—not just when it’s convenient for the shift.
Very disappointing experience, and not what customers should expect from Chipotle.
12-10-2022: My wife order to go – she said a little spicier than normal & Chips were stale as always.
8-14-2022: don’t know what has happened but this order was a fail. My wife text if this would be good for dinner? Sure, I said back. Finding a menu is a pain – as with most places… you MUST use an app and start an order EVEN if you just wanta look. ANYWAY… this order was two burrito one the new GG meat and the other carnitas. My bowl the GG had very little meat 1/4 cup if that. Taste was okay but really didn’t get much of an amount to really know. Her’s the carnitas (pulled pork) had a ton of meat… matter of fact it had a huge clump that had not been shredded (check the pic out)! The meat was very very spicy like it had not been mixed well or half heartedly. Hate that the quality has slipped to this. Was 5-stars now only 2-stars now
3-26-22: that app is great for a quick order and window pick up!
1-23-2022: My wife ordered via the app. So nice, it was ready in the drive thru. I guess that pick up only; no ordering. Quick in and out! This burrito was huge and tasty.
