I have been coming here for 30 years, and I have always come back here when I come to see my parents. The food is just consistently wonderful, and Tiffany, the woman who works the front counter, is always a delight. The chicken on a stick is the best I’ve ever had anywhere, and we always love it when we come. The buffet is wonderful, and a good price for what you get.

China Star is a restaurant that offers a buffet with a decent selection of dishes. While the flavors could have been better, the food was not bad overall. However, we found that most of the dishes, except for the fried rice, were on the sweeter side, which was not to our liking.
When we arrived at the restaurant around 7:30pm, we noticed that things were almost over, and there was only one lady server. Despite there being only a few tables occupied at the time, she seemed overwhelmed. It would have been better if there were more staff members to provide efficient service.
During our visit, my husband unfortunately got bitten by a paper wasp or something similar. We informed the lady server about the incident, but she pretended not to understand. Thankfully, the bite did not result in any severe allergic reaction for my husband, which was a relief.
On the positive side, China Star offers a wide variety of options in their buffet, and they do welcome customers even when they are understaffed.

Wow. I was very happily surprised with our take out order! China Star is really good! We had the General Tao’s Chicken, the General Tso’s Chicken, chefs special fried rice, chefs special lo mein, and fried dumplings. Everything was stellar – fresh, tasty, tangy, sweet. The dumpling dipping sauce was plentiful and had little shreds of fresh ginger.
They gave us way too many condiments so next time I’ll ask that they don’t send any – duck sauce and soy sauce – and ask for some hot mustard. Definitely not complaints or criticisms. We will be eating there again, and somewhat regularly I imagine if the food is consistent. We used Doordash – the food was ready very quickly.
I gave 5 stars for atmosphere although we haven’t been in the restaurant yet. Will update when we go out for dinner.

Love the staff at China Star. They know us by name now, and we eat there a couple times a month. The food is good enough, considering how affordable it is to eat there. Yet the food is still enjoyable, I have no complaints.

Horrible experience. They only had literally 3 buffet bars and half of it was either empty or the food had sat there for hours. They didn’t even give all of us refills on our drinks. Mind you they used red solo cups instead of actual cups for our drinks. And it was $36 for 2 people. That is INSANE!!!! Peking has triple the buffet bars and is nice and clean and the servers are very attenent, unlike this place. Definitely do not recommend, and will NOT be going back!!!!!!!!!

Solid Chinese food for West Virginia! Staff are super friendly and the takeout portion sizes are generous, plus I have never had a problem with wrong items in my takeout.

Staff was friendly & enthusiastic. Nice quaint restaurant. But the food just was not good. From the chicken & shrimp to the fried rice, nothing tasted good. And the spring rolls had hardly any stuffing, 95% breading. For a lunch time cost of $15 +, this was a huge disappointment. I will not be back.

This restaurant gave one of the worst experiences I’ve had at a buffet. There wasn’t much of a variety, and the food they actually did have wasn’t very good. The lack of service despite being one of the only two tables was confusing. At least I can say the facilities looked relatively clean and they let my friend replace her fried bun when she dropped it. For the $10 price, there are several better Chinese buffets in the greater Beckley area.
