Loved the atmosphere and delicious food in this long time Hyde Park restaurant and bar. The owner and staff treat the guests like family and are all super nice and friendly people. The jazz music on Friday night was very enjoyable and really made our evening.⁹

I don’t like to write poor reviews of places, but my experience yesterday sadly deserved one. After my party was seated, we ended up waiting about 50 minutes for our soup appetizer. After that, it took another 40 minutes for us to receive the rest of our meal. Additionally, I had ordered some buns ,but they subbed them out for spring rolls, which we were told had to be done because they didn’t have time to make the buns.

I ordered a duck dish, scallops with spinach and a won ton soup. The scallop dish was good, but the rest were very salty. Drink was ok. I like the dark atmosphere and live music.

My friend and I went for the Asian Food Week special. The restaurant was not prepared for the amount of people that wanted to partake, so the service was slow, but the staff were very friendly and apologetic. I had the duck soup, steamed pork dumplings, and everything but the wok fried rice. The food was very good except the pork dumplings were a little too salty for me, but the sweet dumpling sauce balanced it out.

This was very disappointing. The service at first was very slow and staff seemed unsure of what to do. Food was a little bland with the exception of the fried rice which was good. The music in there was really really bad. I’d definitely stay away from the lettuce wraps.

Worst, most expensive, over seasoned, salty, Chinese food we’ve ever had! Their gimmick is to charge separately for fried rice for dishes that are traditionally served with fried rice. Their entire menu is over priced and bougie. No happy hour prices (we ate before 6pm and dinner for 2 adults and a child was nearly $150). The staff kept forgetting my 1 beer that I ordered, my Kentucky mule was $12, a shot of Woodford was 11! Had to send my daughters entrée back because it was too spicy. The staff sat us in a back corner out of sight because I’m black and my daughter is biracial. We ended up pitching our food after we got it wrapped up up to go. We could’ve and should’ve had drinks at home and ordered 1st Wok from right next door, we could’ve gotten the same food cooked right at a quarter of the price.. Never again! Also I wouldn’t trust using my card there, their charges bounce on and off for over a week!

Food was decent, but a little overpriced. $8 for 6 potstickers. Service was slow as well, but the waiters were super friendly and knowledgeable about the menu.

We haven’t been to China Gourmet in 10 years, our visit tonight was disappointing. One of our parties drink (martini) arrived with stuffed olives that had gone bad. We ordered an appetizer of shrimp chips the pork and shrimp filling had almost no Asian seasoning, it was bland. Our party of 3 had two orders of crispy duck and one Singapore noodle. The Singapore noodle was bland and the noodles undercooked. The duck was so crispy that the meat was very dry and tough. While the duck was crispy, it was bathed so heavily in a coating of overly salty hosin sauce that the crispy became soggy. Not likely we will return again soon.
