Food – perfectly cooked. Lamb Madras – the lamb just fell apart and melted in the mouth. All food was hot upon arrival and the taste was amazing! We came very early (5pm on a Saturday) so the restaurant was empty, however the phone did not stop ringing for takeaways and future bookings. A few trainee waiters being shown the ropes which I have no issue with (we all have to start somewhere) – all the staff were polite, friendly and attentive which is all you can ask for. Great experience and I highly recommend to anyone passing.

During a recent leisure trip to Weymouth, five of us—friends and family—decided to dine at CHILLI’S Weymouth Contemporary Indian and Bangladeshi Restaurant. The food was undeniably good, and the ambiance inviting. However, one particular moment left a lasting impression that felt rather uncomfortable.
Upon arrival, before we could even browse the menu or settle in, we were informed that each person must spend a minimum of £15.00 in order to be served, even we spend £96.55. This upfront condition struck us as unusual and somewhat awkward. It wasn’t clear whether this was a standard policy applied to all guests, or something selectively enforced, which made the situation feel even more unsettling.
Naturally, we asked whether the restaurant operated on a set menu or buffet model, hoping to understand the rationale behind the minimum spend requirement. But the ambiguity remained. The implication—intentional or not—was that we might not be considered capable of spending adequately for dinner, which felt unfair and a bit disheartening.
While the food itself was enjoyable, the initial interaction cast a shadow over the overall experience. It’s a reminder of how important first impressions and respectful communication are in hospitality.
