The food is edible but unfortunately quite low compared to most places.
Service was spectacular! But food was not.

I ordered the original chicken sandwich.
The bun was essentially barren and room temperature, unnoticeable toasted or toasted.
Chicken was not crispy or juicy or warm really.
The Hush Puppies are really good!!!!
Fries are not crispy, and are potato forward. I respect it.
The ranch was liquidy but also seemingly “real” and not just nasty Heinz slop. Had a more gourmet taste.
Blue cheese sauce was acceptable.
The black unsweetened tea tasted like I actually brewed it, which is better than a lot of places can do.
Mac sauce was more ketchup forward than other “classic chicken place sauces.”
BBQ sauce is viscous and quite sweet. Has some spice.

I love Chick N Max and recommend them to others. I am a picky chicken eater and do not like chicken that tastes too chickeny/juicy/greasy and Chick N Max is just right! Their chicken strips & popcorn chicken are so flavorful (and great sauces!) and they are not overly breaded. I also really enjoy the crunchy breading on their unique onion rings (not sure if any other restaurant in SF serves onion rings like these?) and their deviled egg potato salad is excellent, as well as their toast!!

As good as Chicken Max is, there’s always some room for improvement. Here are 2 things I wish they would change:
1) Making sure their delicious thick, soft bread is toasted. I’ve eaten there many times and my bread is always barely toasted and has no butter flavor (if there is butter on it it’s too light. I can’t taste it!). Look at Canes, their toasted bread is awesome, always well buttered & toasted consistently. Chick N Max toast is very similar if not identical to Canes, just needs more butter & toasting done to it to really make it excellent. Customers will actually come back just for delicious toasted bread, so please make sure your toast is always actually toasted and has butter on it or at the least, please offer butter on the side.
2) I do love Chicken Max’s potato salad and the hard boiled eggs in it really make it special! I am a huge deviled egg lover and have made them for every holiday for years. I always add sweet pickle relish to my deviled eggs and it really makes them tasty. Would love their potato salad even more if they added sweet pickle relish. Just my opinion. Thanks!

Chick N Max offers a cozy atmosphere accentuated by the welcoming aroma of smoked meat, setting the stage for a standout fast-food experience. The staff add to the charm with their friendly and helpful demeanor.

Sandwich-wise, the Loaded Bama combines salty and sweet perfectly, and the Smoked Chicken BLT impresses with its smoky aroma and flavor.

Moving to the sides, the coleslaw is uniquely sweet, and the Devil Egg Potato Salad is a hit for those averse to strong mustard. Onion rings are flavorful but may require careful eating.

Ending on a sweet note, the Chocolate Chip Cookie tastes just like a homemade treat.

Highly recommended for a quick, satisfying meal.

Everything looked so good, we couldn’t decide.
If you’re craving something sweet, definitely get the chicken and waffle. The chicken bama is also pretty tasty.
I’d come back for more to try other flavors for sure. 10/10 highly recommended.

My first time. i had the ‘classic’ pulled chicken sandwich. Nice flavor and texture. I like NOT having my sandwich formed and pressed. server was nice and it only took a couple minutes to bring to my table

By far the best chicken place in town. The smoked wings taste like they just came off of a bonfire. A plethora of sides, and a plethora of sauces. Every time I order from them the food is fresh, hot Smoky and amazingly delicious.

This place has only been open for about a month. Beautiful building inside and out and the service was really good. Plenty of staff to keep things moving! For a fast food joint, it was nice that they had workers come around and pre-bus the table. I’m notoriously a fast eater so I always finish first, it was nice that they cleared my section of table while I was waiting for the rest of the family to eat. Also, typically I hate when they have their soda fountain behind the counter, who wants to get in line to get a refill on their drink? However, as I was standing near my table with my drink in my hand, a worker signal for me to come over for a refill. I didn’t want one, I was just waiting for my wife and my son to get up so we could throw our trash away but it was nice that he offered. Someone was paying attention, very nice.

The food? A bit of a mixed review. Prices are not too bad, actually cheaper than I expected. I got the Nashville Hot which I have had at several restaurants… this one was one of the better ones. The best one I’ve ever had is at the Test Kitchen in Minneapolis, if you’re ever in the area, try it… it’s next level amazing and they offer 4 spice levels!!

Unfortunately, I also got the Smoked Chicken Wings. Those were NOT good. They had absolutely no flavor, not even a grain of salt. The “smoke” flavor was more like a burnt ash flavor. I kid you not, my hands smelled like I was there smoking cigarettes all night after touching them. Luckily, the smoke was not very penetrating as far as the chicken goes and the Ghost Pepper Sauce gave them flavor and made them edible. Really really good flavored sauce but “Ghost Pepper” insinuates it’s going to have some heat, it had no heat at all… disappointing.

The sides might have been the best part of the meal. Potato Salad, Mac & Cheese, and Mashed Potatoes were all very good.

Unfortunately, the wife and kid said they’d not go back. The Nashville Hot was a good sandwich and there were a lot of things on the menu that looked very appetizing so I might go back for a work meal and give them a second chance. It’s a new enough restaurant that they might still be trying to find their nitch, I’m not ready to completely give up on them yet but I definitely won’t be ordering the wings again.

I’ve given it two chances with the same results. Today was the final straw, I made my decision. I ordered the original chicken sandwich in drive through. Had a little wait but not bad, it’s going to be fresh, right? Drive through lady just pushed a bag in my hands and said thank you. When I opened the chicken it looked good enough. First bite, Luke warm, stringy and stale. Chewy and overcooked. Nasty. I tried the thinker, other side of the sandwich just in case. Just as gross. Tasted like it was under the warmer too long. Over cooked, dry, unpalatable. Nasty.
First experience was exactly the same.
You’ve lost a customer. There are so many other restaurants in town that do it right.

I really really wanted to give this place five stars for food however my classic smoked chicken sandwich had ZERO sauce. As you can imagine, very dry. The chicken itself with smoked to perfect perfection with amazing flavor. The fries also have great taste, but need to be cooked a little bit longer. I would return in hopes that this was just a one off experience
