Came here for a lunch with friends. There is a 90 minute time limit for dine in. We ordered a couple of dishes, some were recommended by the waiter. They were all pretty good. I like that this is not your average Thai place. The papaya salad we ordered was made with raw crab, it had a quite strong crab flavor. The dry noodles were pretty unique, I’ve never tasted this type of dish anywhere. I loved the softshell crab curry, also unique and super flavorful. We ended with the sticky rice with mango , it was also good. Rice was cooked through and the mangos were ripe and sweet.
It’s a restaurant with lots of hype but really worth trying. It gets crowded when we left (we came when they first opened at 11:30). I’ll come back with my family for sure

A Tustin local recommended this place for us to try Northern Thai food in Tustin instead of. lBC. The place was decorated really nicely. Very pleasant and clean. At first the menu was a bit overwhelming but once you navigate the through the menu, everything looked delicious. We ordered the Branzino lemon steamed fish at Market Price, papaya salad with grilled shrimp, chicken Tom Yum Kha and Prik Nam Noom(combination of green curry roasted eggplant, minced chicken with red curry typed sauce, with steamed vegetables, pork rinds and fried tofu like strips. The lemon steamed fish was good, the broth was tangy but it was good. The combination of the Nam Prik Mueng was very interesting. The papaya salad was a bit spicy for my taste and we asked for medium. Will do the mild on the next visit. All the all was good. A bit pricey for the normal dishes but it was good. The service was excellent. Our water was filled when it went down half of the glass. Very nice place.

This was my first visit to Chiang Rai and I can say I was not disappointed. Me and my wife drove up from San Diego just to eat here. With the restaurant opening at 11:30 AM on a Saturday, we got there around 10:50 AM but there was no line, so we decided to walk around the shopping plaza. We got back around 11:20 AM and people were already lined up (not too many people though as we were able to get seated right away once the restaurant opened).

Once we sat, the servers gave us waters and a couple of minutes to look over the menu. We decided to order the following:
– Khao Soi Noodle Soup with Chicken
– Pad Thai
– Pu Kari
– Kao Pad See Ew Mun Nure

Everything came out in a timely manner and tasted delicious! I will say the dish that stood out the most was the Kao Pad See Ew Mun Nure, which is essentially Pad See Ew fried rice. I’ve never had fried rice cooked in Pad See Ew sauce before, but now I’ll compare any future fried rice to this.

All in all, I would recommend eating at Chiang Rai. I wouldn’t hesitate to make the drive from San Diego just to eat here again.

The interior décor is really beautiful, and the staff are friendly. The wait time was very accurate, which I appreciated. The restroom was clean, and the overall atmosphere was fun and lively. I loved the tom yum soup, it was delicious, and the skewers were very tasty as well. Unfortunately, the crying tiger dish was disappointing. It may have been because the restaurant was very crowded and the chef seemed rushed. The steak had no char, was cold, and turned out chewy. The fried rice was also underwhelming; the rice grains felt hard and undercooked. Papaya salad was average, i have had better.

Nov 2, Went there to eat dinner with family. We had the deep fried enoki mushrooms and tod mun (fish cake). Both were really good, fried mushrooms was very well cooked, crispy on the outside, soft inside and not over cooked. The tod mun was really good, but Personally, i like it with more curry. And the cucumber sauce was a great compliment. Between the two, we liked the mushrooms better. We had the phad kee mao noodles with pork, crab curry (yellow) and po kari (fried soft shelled crab in yellow egg curry And veggies) for dinner. The flavor in all the dishes was really good. The potatoes in the crab curry was a bit hard, wished it was softer, cooked longer. The crab kari was really good flavor, no spice/ heat option. They gave alot of crab, two big pieces of deep fried soft shelled crab and some cooked crab pieces. Crab was very well cooked… we’ll get again. The phad kee mao, had great flavor. Ordered the medium, but it was not that hot. I like it medium spicy, but not too spicy., So I’ll have to order hot option, for medium heat. We also had the mango sticky rice for dessert. It was really yummy, great flavor. The mango was really sweet, yet firm. The sticky rice was good, not the best I’ve had. The staff was really nice. Overall, a great place to eat, very authentic, and not Americanized. Will come back again.

Recently went back there on end of Nov for take out, Ordered it ahead during busy time and only 25min wait. We got there a little after that and it was hot and waiting. ask for chopsticks or fork if you’re eating away from home, since it didn’t come with one. Got the phad thai with pork and tofu (extra cost). After we got to airport and had it, it was soo good, and food the next day since we didn’t eat it all. The noodles weren’t soft/mushy, nice and firm still, pork and tofu was tasty and wasn’t over cooked. We got the spicy, which was perfect, for someone who can handle heat but not alot. Had a kick but still can taste the food. They scaled it perfect for the American pallet, it was a 3 out of 4, since they have mild, med, spicy and very spicy. 7 out of 20 in Asian scale, where 20 is make you sweat, kill me now level. We’ll have to try the very spicy next time.

So delicious! Eater Map recommended this restaurant and it did not disappoint! I had the papaya salad with wings combo and my husband had the Khao soi dry noodles and that was so delicious as well!

The wait staff was attentive and they are super fast! And it is always a great sign when most of the diners are all Thai people! I could not believe the flavor of this simple salad. it’s so simple but so hard to get the balance just right! I’ve been trying for years at home, but have never gotten it this good! If you’re a Thai food lover, you should really try this place out!

Caveat for all of those that think I only give 5 star reviews. I give my ratings based on the type of restaurant I’m going to….if it’s a hole in the wall, I may still give it 5* because it’s what I expect and if it’s especially grungy or full of character, I may wax poetically about it….mom and pop restaurants exist all over the world and to me, atmosphere is defined as not just the decor, but the people in it….how did I feel? Was it grungy and gross feeling or was it grungy but had a vibe? You never know until you get there and some may feel differently than I do…But these are my honest reviews.

This restaurant is neither grungy nor dirty. It’s what I’d expect out of a restaurant like this. It’s very nice inside, but it is also very “SE Asian”….IYKYK

We came for dinner and we had some high expectations. We really enjoy Manaoo down the street and we heard chiang Rai was just as good.

We thought that it was just okay. Unfortunately the Kao Soy at Manaoo was definitely better and it kind of had an odd sour taste to it. Most of the other dishes were also just okay.

The service was great and friendly. It wasn’t crowded when we went at 5 but got really busy around 6. So I would recommend getting there early.

Another Thai restaurant that I wanted to cross off my list to try, so here we went.

1. Midnight chicken with Roti: 3/5 – good but not special. The dipping sauce is straight out of a Thai sweet chili bottle. Roti was good and complimented well with the wings.

2. Pad see ew with beef: 2.5/5 – average. The taste was abit odd, mixing of some sweetness and somewhat bitterness afterward, not clean taste. The flavors were also off, didn’t get a signature smoky “Pad see ew”. The beef texture was spongy like it was seasoned with baking soda , I got some pieces very mushy. Definitely not a high quality beef.

3. Panang with pork: 3/5 – pretty good but more like a yellow curry-style with a ton of bell peppers. Slightly sweet and rich coconut flavor and taste. The pork was a slice cut instead of stew cut, so asically their Panang is a soup base then they just add sliced meat per order to call it a day. Also the meat texture was spongy like seasoned with baking soda.

4. Crab fried rice: 3/5 – good but not great because didn’t see much crab meats and the flavors were not garlicky, peppery, and smoky. Not sure if the fried egg was supposed to be runny when cut into it but the yolk was all set.

5. Mango sticky rice: 4/5 – pretty good but the coconut flavor was not robust. The texture was softer than I’ve normally had from Thai restaurants, however I prefer it this way.

The service was good for an hr but then we were rushed to leave so they could have a table for waiting guests. It was abit of turnoff…

Btw, they dont have an alcohol license so no alcohol is served or bring-in is allowed.

Anyway, the food was disappointing for the hypes, and pricey for low quality meats and preparations… one timer for us for sure.

I ordered the fried pork neck and khao soi, and both were delicious!
The pork neck was tender, flavorful, and perfectly crispy on the outside. The khao soi had rich, aromatic curry broth with noodles cooked just right — very comforting and authentic.

Portions were generous, and the presentation was beautiful. Staff was friendly and the service was quick. Definitely one of the best Thai spots in Tustin. I’ll be back to try more dishes!

I’ve heard good things about this place, came around 11.20 and ppl already waiting. Small restaurant, nice deco, foods came out fast even during lunch time, friendly staff.
– Tom Kha with shrimp. Coconut broth was a little sweet for me.
– Satay Chicken was ok.
– Roti combo was very good. The chicken wings was crispy outside, meat was tender, juicy.
– Crab fried rice taste just like regular fried rice, no crab taste.
Will come again to try different items.
Lunch open from 11.30 – 2pm then re open again from 4 to 9pm
