I visited Cheng Du Restaurant for lunch on a Saturday and had a really enjoyable experience. The food was overall pretty good and satisfying, and the portion sizes are quite generous, especially for the chicken dishes and noodles.
The hot and sour soup was a standout—flavorful and comforting, and I’d highly recommend it. The Peking noodles were also quite good, with great texture and a hearty portion. The Szechuan tofu was okay, though not my favorite dish of the meal.
The real highlight was the chilli chicken—excellent flavor, perfectly spiced, and served in a very generous portion. Overall, a solid spot for Chinese food and great value for money, especially if you enjoy spicy dishes.

Opened the box and thought I was being pranked. Worst PuPu platter for 1 I have ever seen and tasted. Everything was cold and the chicken wings were so dinky and small. It seemed as if just all of it was sitting out and re heated. The spare ribs were hard as a rock and had no sauce on them, so dry. We had one of the best meals ever last night and it was at Cheng Du! This is a nice restaurant with great atmosphere. While we did not have wine, we absolutely LOVE how they have their bottles stored. Staff is very friendly and accommodating, and couldn’t be better. Food was absolutely delicious and we surprised our waitress when she checked on us to find we’d finished everything! We will be back, probably order twice as much so we can have leftovers. You will not regret coming here!

A bit far for us, about 45 minutes away, but worthwhile for us. It wasn’t very busy as usual. It is likely the time we pick, which is around mid-afternoon. We like it quiet.
The food was good and hot as it should be. Served quickly. My wife loves their lemon chicken and dry, stir fried green beans. Me, I like the simple and home style house fried rice and hot and sour soup. Sorry, no pictures though my wife took some.

Sunday 12/7 6:00 as I write this review. We ordered take out tonight. Tried Kung Pao chicken, shrimp and lobster sauce, vegetable lo mein. By far this is the worst Chinese takeout we have ever eaten, such a disappointment. Flat and flavorlesss, lack of spice, and veg Lo mein only had rare mushrooms, bean sprouts and some scattered onions. Threw everything in the trash. We will never return. Proceed with caution, idk maybe they miss the mark rarely given all the positive reviews, however, tonight our takeout food was straight out lousy.

This is the type of Chinese restaurant that takes you back in time. When the decor of a restaurant was just as cool as the food. You are greeted at the front steps by two lion statues. When you walk in there’s a koi pond on one side and a statue on the other. I was promptly and politely greeted and seated in a very comfortable 70’s style orange padded chair. It was relaxing before it started. They brought me tea and my ice water. My water was great! I had the Hot and Sour Soup! A PuPu for one and ***Shrimp with Lobster Sauce.*** The Hot and Sour Soup was delicious. It was more of a lite broth but it had all the traditional flavors, mushrooms, tofu, golden needles and it had a nice little kick. I review a lot of Chinese restaurants and the Shrimp with Lobster Sauce was some of the best I’ve had. The shrimp were huge and cooked perfectly. The sauce achieved that perfect flavor without even close to being too salty or sweet. Very old school solid but elevated dish. I will definitely come back for this.

I also enjoyed the shrimp, although there was more batter. The flavor carried it. The reason for the four instead of a five. I hope this gets read and worked on. The teriyaki was good, but the flavor was weak. Same with the spareribs. The chicken wings had a nice crunch, but lacked flavor and weren’t as moist as some. The egg rolls were more cabbage and lacked flavor. I prefer the old school celery based. If you do go cabbage it needs some seasoning. Overall it was a really good experience. If you like Shrimp and Lobster Sauce make the trip. There was a lot of people eating there by the time I left. I’d like to try more entrées.

First Time. The ambiance is so nice, welcoming, and warm. We ordered house fried rice, stir-fried rice noodles with beef, beef with green peppers and onions. With a pin̈a colada and a Tsingtao beer. Fantastic. Even the eggs in the house rice tasted fresh. There was nothing greasy about the food. We will be back.

In one word, I would describe Cheng Du as neglected. I decided not to penalize this restaurant with a low review because I believe in it. This is a call out to the owner to remind them of what a beautiful restaurant they have. With a little love, attention and elbow grease, Cheng Du has the potential to, once again, be amazing. The foundation for greatness is there it just needs someone who cares, to bring life back into the establishment. My wife and I stopped at this conveniently located (Rt. 9 West) Chinese restaurant on our way back to Worcester from Boston. The atmosphere was a bit in shambles and the food was ok. The staff was very kind and they did a pretty good job with service.
ATMOSPHERE:
The lighting, décor and artwork, were all beautiful. I appreciated the dark wood flooring which complemented the brighter and colorful walls. I was also a fan of the authentic Chinese art and sculptures scattered throughout. As I stated previously, the foundation is here. If management put some time into cleaning up the place, I have no doubt they’ll see a major improvement in customer satisfaction and in the business overall.
FOOD:
The variety of options was promising, the presentation was lovely and overall, we enjoyed our food but it was clear that there was no, dare I say the word, passion. The environment overall felt a bit lifeless, and it reflected in the food. If the kitchen can get it together and re-ignite the spark, I really believe that Cheng Du has the cooking expertise to dish out some appealing plates.
STAFF:
Our server and his partner did a great job overall. The food was brought out in a very timely and structured manner. We both appreciated that there wasn’t a long wait between the courses. I also appreciated that my waiter did refill my water without me asking. The service took a bit of a dip after all the food was delivered. The attention to our table disappeared but our waiters partner came and got us checked out.

Best Chinese food in the business. I have yet to have better. Always prepared fresh for you, and very gourmet. Doesn’t leave you with that “upset stomach” feeling afterward, like those cheap Chinese restaurants do. My absolute favorite would have to be their House Lo Mein. Made with chicken, pork, beef, and shrimp, a variety of shredded vegetables, perfectly cooked al’ dente Chinese noodles , and their delectable sauce. They slice the chicken so thin and prepare it so light. It practically melts in your mouth. Their Mooshi All comes in at a close second for me. I’ve often asked myself, “How can a dish so light, taste so good?” All those shredded vegetables, cloud ear mushrooms, a little scrambled egg, and again with the chicken, pork, beef, and shrimp. Then served with those thin pancakes, and that sweet plum sauce. Just perfection . Their house rice is so much better than the traditional pork fried rice. Even without the soy sauce, it had an amazing flavor, with peas, carrots, and green onion, a little scrambled egg, and again with the chicken, pork, beef, and shrimp. The Yushiang Vegetable is a special request. Not on their regular menu, but I just love the sauce so much, and it’s great on their Chinese mixed vegetables. I’m also partial to their chicken dishes. Like their Orange Chicken, their Sweet Sesame Chicken, and of course their sweet sour and spicy General Tzao’s Chicken. I would have to say my only critique would be their Crab Rangoon. I think they would be better without the added sugar in the cream cheese crab mixture. I’m not a fan of sweet Crab Rangoon. The owner, Fong, is a sheer delight. Always greets you with a smile and some light conversation. All in all, I would have to give their food a full five-star’s. Order an extra House Lo Mein to-go. It’s THAT good.
