Best BBQ in the area. You won’t find it too fatty, not too dry. The baked potatoes (loaded, of course!) are decadent.

Got the three meat plate (brisket, pork ribs, and spicy sausage) with okra and coleslaw. The brisket and pork ribs were a little dry and bland. The flavors were mainly on the surface of the meats only. The spicy sausages were good and flavorful with a slight kick. The sides stood out to me. The fried okra was fresh, crispy, and not too oily. The coleslaw also tasted refreshing and not smothered in dressing.

My favorite downtown lunch spot! Today I have a small mixed salad, with everything I like cut just right, topped with a delicious homemade cilantro ranch dressing, and a generous cup of chicken tortilla soup. All for less than $10!

Zero STARS!!! Gross overpriced food and terrible customer service. I ordered a salad with a side of brisket on it. The veggies were old, stale looking and unfresh. The guy making the salad had a very pleasant attitude and was friendly. However the middle eastern guy in charge was the total opposite. Very mean looking with bad energy. Looked at customers with a dirty look and he had a rude attitude. The salad was $15 and the brisket had no taste and was dry & COLD (like refridgerated cold) and unseasoned. I’m not sure why the brisket was cold if it was sitting out under the heat lamps in the serving line as the man with the horrible attitude sliced it…. He was also the person I paid that didn’t tell me my total. I had to ask him how much my order was prior to swiping my card. POOR CUSTOMER SVC!!! Never will I buy from this establishment again. $15 went to total waste. I threw it straight into the trash when I got back to the office. Big disappointment! I wouldn’t feed this mess to a stray dog!

The food not only looked tasty, but it was delicious. Also, the portion was worth the price.

The brisket is the definition of blandness. Not even seasoned with salt and pepper. Don’t waste your time or money.

I really like Charlie’s BBQ. They have comparable/reasonable prices in line with what you usually find in the tunnels, if not a little less expensive depending on what you get, and the food is fresh and good quality.
There are also a lot of options. Although it has BBQ in the name, they also have a large salad bar, cheesesteak, hamburgers, and fried catfish.
I find the staff to be pretty friendly and helpful, and they do a good job of managing individual orders as well as large catering orders. I never felt like it took longer to get my food because of a catering order (which happens at some downtown places.)
Additionally, this has nothing to do with the restaurant specifically, but the eating area nearby with tables and chairs is usually not busy because most people get their food and go back to the office, so it’s nice and quiet and has a lot of natural light coming into it from the opening above. It’s great.

Stopped here on a whim for breakfast and the food was amazing. The pancakes were super soft and fluffy and the eggs and bacon were cooked to perfection. Would definitely eat here again.

I got laid off 10 years ago so I no longer have a reason to go downtown, but I really miss Charlie’s. What an awesome spot for breakfast and lunch. It never ever disappointed.
