I was absolutely blown away by the genuine care and love put into every aspect of this restaurant! First and foremost, don’t be scared that it’s not Mexican food like fajitas and nachos that you can get at the 1 billion other copies of what people think of as Mexican. This is traditional goodness. Just pick something–you won’t be disappointed! They’ve got some of the most fun dishes I’ve experienced in Austin. The cocktails are wonderful as well! Excellent selection of tequilas and mescals. I’m a vegetarian, and the chef went out of his way to make me a special nopales torta (cactus). Typically cactus is slimy like okra, but this place knows how to cook it fantastic! They also had huitlacoche (corn smut) which was the most delicious I’ve ever had. Their general manager took really great care of us. It was such a great, unique experience (one that’s hard to find these days), I cannot wait to go back!

Family friendly, it is more than a cantina! Chapulín Cantina food was excellent & fresh. My favorite salsa was the green which is served with tortilla chips. I enjoyed the ceviche cenizo con tostadas (2). Pescado frito tacos, puerco en salsa verde & sides of rice.

Food is okay. The torta ahogada is served with fries on the same plate, and they soak up all the salsa of the torta. The salsas are not spicy. We had to request one that was, and their spicy one was not good. They took 12 minutes to take our drink order because we were sitting outside, and they forgot we were there.

Wanted to check out the spot that replaced Enoteca and was pretty disappointed. I first tried the hanger steak in some type of mole looking sauce and it had a really bad gamey taste and I just couldn’t have more than one bite. I asked kindly to return and exchange for the fish dish. It turned out to be a small piece of salmon that was 3” thick by 5” long with 5-6 fried plantains and some rice. I had to send back the fish because it was raw in the Middle and they brought back the fish that was half the size and over cooked. The rice was good and the fried plantains was good. I spent over $43 for this dish and I was still hungry. I think I’ll pass even though the staff was friendly

Really great drinks. We just got chips and salsa but I can do is super authentic. They weren’t chips rather baked tortillas. Salsa was on point. Bartender was excellent.

Absolutely wonderful. Delicious full bodied flavors. We stopped here during Restaurant Week and were not disappointed. Kajsa took care of us and we had a fantastic lunch.

Overall we enjoyed our dinner here. We started with the Queso Fundido with added chorizo. Came out hot and cheesy! We then ordered the Pork Mole, Birria de Chivo, and the Pescado Al Epazote. The fish (pescado) was the biggest disappointment as it was only a very small portion. The other 2 dishes were super yummy and we shared everything. Margaritas (on the rocks and frozen)were great as was the Paloma. Would definitely go back!

Our server was very friendly, however, we were not impressed with the food. The kind of enchiladas they have look like tacos, and the moles did not taste very good. The only mole that was edible for me was the amarillo one. My mom said that hers tasted burned. The black beans were soupy but tasted fine, and the fried tortillas were fine as well. The bathroom was so dark that I could barely see the knob to flush the toilet.

Service was very good, the staff is very attentive. The server brought us a water dish for our dog, which was so nice! Dark atmosphere with a large focus on the bar area. Price range varies, fits everyone’s budget! The salsas were okay compared to others in the area. Our meat was a bit over cooked, a little burnt. The orchata was also okay, small glass and a lot of ice. This restaurant has a good variety of dishes that are very authentic, I may give it another try.
