C’est la Vie Bakery has closed, but it will remain unforgettable

I’ll miss those pastries and the morning camaraderie that was shared in that cramped space. But I have also lost one of my go-to Hattiesburg …

C’est La Vie bakery owner was ‘perfect blend of friend, family’

Janusz Lukowski, owner of C’est La Vie bakery in Hattiesburg, died Monday after a brief battle with pancreatic cancer.

The croissants are exceptionally delicious! I love the flaky texture on the inside and the delicate crisp texture on the outside. The buttery flavor is terrific. The cinnamon rolls are great too…wonderful texture and not too sweet. I am so grateful to have such an excellent local bakery…this is one of my favorites.

Best croissants you will get in Mississippi. The chef is personable and really knows his craft. Definitely get a king cake here when they’re in season. The one with Bavarian cream is the best!

This place is the worst business experience I have ever had!!! Lack of communication on all staff there. Tried to get a king cake 3 times for my birthday and all 3 times failed through. We called twice to see if our cake was ready and was told yes and drove across town only to find out it never was made or ready all 3 times. Owner was rude and clueless of the situation. We will never do business here again. Huge waste of time. I’ve heard great reviews about the king cakes. Wish we would’ve been able to find out how great they were.

The food has always been great, but I went in at 10:00am today and there was hardly anything in the display case. I walked out with nothing because I had something particular in mind that I wanted and was told someone had just called and placed an order for all of what was left of what I wanted. I might have been open to trying something else, but there was literally only two other baked good in the display case. This has been my only poor experience there, the person behind the counter didn’t even apologize for the lack of selection. She also didn’t recommend anything that could have been an alternative to what I wanted.

Lived in Japan for four years and learned that the pastry chefs there pride themselves on moving to France to learn from the best. They then bring those skills back to Japan. They have perfected the art and so has the owner and pâtissier of C’Est La Vie, Yanusz. It’s the only French Bakery I have found in this area. And it’s as authentic as it gets.

C’est La Vie is wonderful, the atmosphere and the crazy French chef just makes the entire experience amazing. The desserts are rich and creamy and the omelettes are full of flavor.

Delicious. The owners and employees there are very sweet. We ordered the Almondine (if I spelled that right) for a birthday. It was so good and beautiful.
