We waited about 35 minutes to be seated which was fine as you have plenty of seating for waiting guests & we enjoyed talking with others waiting.
I saw someones else’s review that complained of “no sides”. Seriously?! READ the menu people! The sides are the yummy peppered cabbage and macaroni salad that is put out to eat family style along with warm fresh buscuits! I love the zip of the pepper cabbage! Reminds me of what my gram used to serve. And when your meal arrives, your waitress also delivers warm bowls of green beans and stewed apples to enjoy family style. So good!!!
I have always enjoyed your trout deboned table side, which I’ve had multiple times but went with the fried scallops which were perfectly cooked which can be tricky when deep frying them. Yours were perfect & went well with the tarter sauce (which had a nice onion flavor to it) and cocktail sauce. My hubby had the fried flounder which was well done & tasty. You offered some great homemade desserts but I had no room:(
Thank you for persevering after Helene and
taking a chance on relocating to Landrum. While you can’t please everyone, you have pleased us as always! Keep up the great work & kudos to your staff whom really bust it out! Good workers can be hard to find & you have and are blessed See you again soon!
First off , I highly encourage you to make a reservation , even a couple days out as they fill up fast . I called the day before and had to eat at 4pm to sit inside as the inside was booked up. The patio was available later and it is covered and they have fans. Truthfully , I might have been alright sitting outside at 630pm and next time I’ll remember that . I got there at 4pm and let me tell you the line was out into the parking lot . To me this is a great sign that the food and service are going to be great. Since I had called and booked the day before I made my way to the hostess stand and was promptly sat. They immediately got waters and brought their famous caro-mi coleslaw and pasta salad . Both are winners , I ordered the chicken livers and my wife got the trout . The food arrived in about 8 minutes, , I watched the server remove the head and tail from my wife’s trout then open it up and plate it for her. By the way she may have encountered one or two bones max .
They also brought green beans and warm apples with our entrees. My livers were perfect and a very generous helping . The atmosphere is busy but in a good way and I saw the patio slowly starting to fill up.
For dessert I had the tarheel pie , the only way I can describe it is that it’s like a brownie served in a pie crust with ice cream. This is a must order item. They have a few other desserts but I knew when I got there what I was having.
To wind this up , I miss the old place , the water and the beautiful front porch and rockers . But, I am so happy they reopened and did not just go away . Thank you to the owners and staff for staying strong and keeping the tradition alive
Everything on the menu is $23 to $26 each. Most of the menu is just fried food as you can see from the photo.
At best, all of the food is cafeteria quality and the portions are tiny. I recieved 8 fried shrimp for $23. No side, just 8 shrimp. They DO however bring out a couple mini sides for the table to share. Green beans, macaroni salad and kraut. None of which we ordered. Can’t figure out how they gained such a following from their previous location. It’s way overpriced for what you get. The service actually was the best feature of this place. I would pick Waffle House everyday of the week though if I was looking for this style of food. Big disappointment over the previous business that was here.
The food was a disappointment and the choices are few. The sides are replenished at request but the Slaw is a strong tasting sour kraut. Then there are canned green beans, pasta salad, apple mush.
The ham is very salty and hard, the Grits and not creamy, and the protein on each plate is not plentiful.
The owner is super nice and the staff work really and are some of the best. Wanted to like this place but the food can not compare to the beautiful environment.
The atmosphere is cozy, quiet, calming and beautiful! I love the sounds of the stream, crickets chirping, and the front porch rocking chairs. The covered bridge is so perfect to take wonderful pictures of the trees, stream, and the restaurant. Food is great, and service spectacular! Cozy little place tucked away in the mountains. Beautiful drive along the way.
I highly recommend Caro Mi!!
