We were in town to do some fishing and decided to check this place out for some breakfast and I’m so glad we did. The menudo was great and the tacos were full of meat. Great service!

This is my favorite Mexican restaurant of all the Mexican restaurants we visited in Port Arthur. I have enjoyed every visit. Food is always delicious and the servers, the hosts, and cashiers are friendly and efficient. The dining room is nice with their colorfully carved furnitures. They serve breakfast daily from 8-11 AM, but they also serve lunch during these hours. They get really busy at lunch, but come and join the fun! Parking is free and available around the restaurant, and I think there’s an overflow parking area in the adjacent lot. Restrooms are clean. You can order takeout. They accept credit cards, of course. They have longer dining hours on weekends, but are closed Sundays.

What a wonderful experience for Mexican food. Especially the wood decor of the seats and tables in the dining area! Ornate hand-carved wood with beautiful pictures. Everything from Horses to Hummingbirds on these tables and chairs!

It’s been great in the past but recently service has been in the dumps. Horrible experiences with to-go orders and not so friendly over the phone. If you sit down to eat, it’s better. The picture I posted is a $2 upcharge for a beef fajita burrito grande. The cold portion is on the side because of a long trip home. It’s all rice. Very dissatisfied. It’s been like this for the past 6 or so months.

For 5 years I’ve been visiting this restaurant… not every day, obviously. The service and the atmosphere are great, but the food is just out of this world. Check them out. You won’t be disappointed.

Carmela’s is a great place to go eat everything is wonderful on the menu. But BUT. The margaritas are wine base cause of the church next door so no alcohol is served there.
