Reviews
My friend ordered a vodka tonic and was asked if she’d like ice in it. While a strange thing to ask, the server was very young and this could have very well be his first gig.
We ordered the caprese bites to start and they were 4 tiny skewers of very salty mozzarella and tomatoes. I would pass on these, not worth the $9.
I had the peperoni e caprino salad with chicken and it was just ok. I would’ve liked the chicken to have been warm and not cold. My friend had the ravioli and again it was just ok.
I’m not a “foodie” nor do I typically write reviews, but I just felt this place wasn’t up to par with the neighboring restaurants. If you’re looking for Italian, you’d probably be better off going to Brio down the street, but if you’re looking for high quality service and great food in the Pike and Rose area, go to Santa Monica.
The two stars were earned by the drinks and the good service.
Our waitress was very nice and did everything very well.
The mixed drinks were the most delicious part of our meal, perhaps a good spot for happy hour?
The Caponata is an interesting tasting appetizer. It’s described as a sweet and sour eggplant stew, but its basically a cold dip.
The Pasta con Funghi (mushroom pasta) was a delicious pasta! It had a generous amount of mixed mushrooms and the pappardelle pasta was cooked to perfection. The Linguine al Frutti di Mare (seafood linguine) was a little light in flavor and the mussels, squid, and clam were really small. I enjoyed it, but I don’t think I’ll order it again. The Penne Giardiniera is my favorite of the three pastas I’ve tried. The sauce had shredded zucchini, garlic, and parmesan topped with fried spinach balls. It was a very tasty dish!
For dessert, I tried the Pasticcio di Cioccolata (Chocolate Bread Pudding) and the Panna Cotta. The bread pudding was good, but a little expensive for the small slice you’re getting. I didn’t like that it had raisins.
I like the ambiance of the place. Service was excellent and very friendly! Several people came to check up on us, but not in an annoying way.
They have a mini market on the side where they sell desserts, ready-to-eat food, cheese, and prosciutto. They also sell dried pasta and other goods.
The restaurant is kind of hidden. It’s behind Summer House Santa Monica and across from the new garage. First two hours of parking in the garage is free. Parking is also free in the lot where Chipotle is. It’s only a short walk.
fast food first.
