The hostess was very unprepared greeting our group and there were dirty tables all around us that stayed all dirty throughout the duration of our meal. The staff were unprofessional and there was white particles floating around in my water I almost didn’t trust the food. We all got wings and it was pretty decent but the vibe of the place really brought this visit down.

We had a group of about 30 people who needed a place to gather last minute for an end of season celebration since the weather was too bad to do what we planned outside. We reserved the private room and it was just perfect. Away from the rest of the restaurant we were able to hear each other and not be worried about disturbing everyone else. We had 2 servers, Zane and Laura, who were amazing. They took really good care of us and made sure we had everything we needed. And best of all, we could all pay our bills separately, instead of making all one check. We didn’t need a super fancy wedding type venue, which is all you can find when you search for places that can seat a party of 30.

If you looking for some reasonable priced seafood this may be the spot! Pros the fish and hush puppies were great! The server was nice and we were seated pretty fast however it took them awhile to get to our table order. Not a huge fan of the shrimp and the potato and Mac cheese at best was lukewarm, will come again for the fish!

The food was amazing!! Our waitress was amazing!! This is more about the manger that was working tonight (12/21/2025) who was in the pink!! My husband ordered the BBQ plate and he found plastic in his pulled pork, I walked up to the counter and let our waitress know and she said oh no we are not having that so she called the manger over to me. When I explained the situation and showed her the plastic we found she was like oh my god it’s just the plastic that the meat comes wrapped up in. I told her we figured that and we just wanted to let her know. She RUDELY said okay and showed me the trash can and had me throw it out. Nothing else from her. Just turned and walked away!! We had our 18 month old son my husband was feeding off his plate so I’m glad he wasn’t the one who ended up eating it!! Absolutely UNPROFESSIONAL

I grew up in Savanah and I have always loved Cary Hilliards. I even remember when family members parished in a plane crash. That’s how long I’ve been eating Carey Hillards. Every time I visit, I love to get the Captain’s Platter. This time, the devil crab tasted like it had been frozen, thawed and sat in the fridge for a few days. The oysters felt hard, and they also tasted like they had been frozen. The oysters also didn’t have a great taste. Season is needed. I called back to the Skidaway location and spoke to the manager about the food. I hope he, other managers and the general manager will make sure customers are getting fresh food. Next time, I will eat a few bites before I drive away. IF THE FOOD CONTINUES TO TASTE STALE, THEN THE PRICE NEEDS TO BE lowered from $26.99/$27.99 to $17.99!!!!

Zane was absolutely amazing! We were in for Christmas Eve, and the food was fresh and delicious. Zane was one of the best servers we’ve had in a while–attentive, friendly, funny, and there with everything we needed. He made our family dinner special!

My husband and I have had great experiences at Carey Hilliards Restaurant on Skidaway Road. The food was great and the service was great. Zane, our waiter did a fantastic job! We now ask for him by name and sit at his tables when possible. He is that good!

Some times, the simplest looking of restaurants often hides the best service, best food, best atmosphere, and the most likeable and truly polite of staff. We recently found such a place just outside of downtown Savannah, Georgia. It is not very far from the Savannah State University.
I suppose that If one were looking for a fault at Carey Hilliard’s Restaurant, then it is quite possible that one would say that the place does not look like Buckingham Palace. But who cares? Most of us will never eat in Buckingham Palace.
We truly enjoyed our time at Carey Hilliard’s. On our next visit, I will add photos to this review.
