At our Athens, AL location, we are part of a historic seafood tradition. Captain D’s Seafood Restaurant first opened its doors back on August 15, 1969. A lot has changed since then, but our commitment to serving freshly prepared seafood at a great value has been our core mission from the beginning. Known originally as Mr. D’s Seafood and Hamburgers, Captain D’s was opened in Donelson, Tennessee. From the very start, we set out to provide quality seafood at reasonable prices, a concept that was revolutionary at the time.

This is the worst Captain D’s that I have ever been to. I ordered a baked potato and this is what I got. My husband ordered fries and the portion was like a kiddie meal.
We asked for the original recipe for the batter on the fish, and it was not good at all, and looked like chicken fingers.
This is my second time going there. The first time was not so good either, but I know that every business may have a bad day, so I gave them another chance!
No more! Stay away from the Captain D’s in Athens, AL. The building is old as crap too. They don’t even have a drive thru. The owners obviously don’t care and The manager needs to be FIRED!!!!

My first time at this restaurant, I had high expectations, as some acquaintances had recommended it to me. Everything was delicious; the shrimp and fish were cooked to perfection. The cashier was very friendly, and despite being a bit busy, my food was delivered within minutes. I plan to return.

Usually the food is good but the last couple times it wasn’t that great I like my fish extra crispy but that’s not how I got it the last 2 times with that being said other than the last couple times its been good the service is good most of the time unless they are busy but that is understandable.

I called in my order. I purchased a family pack that came with 10 pieces of fish, hush puppies, and 2 large sides. I also ordered cheese sticks, and funnel cake sticks. Everything was piping hot! The cheese sticks were so tasty. The fish was so good and light crispy. Hush puppies were fluffy and delish! The funnel sticks are my favorite! I could close my eyes while eating them and I could picture myself at a fair! The cashier was very nice and very helpful. I will definitely go back!

Drove from Huntsville to Athens based on better reviews for that location. Mistake. None of the staff even acknowledged us at the dine-in counter. And I mean didn’t even look at us. They were only concerned with carry-out orders. So after a few minutes we left for Culvers in Madison. Too many option available to put up with that. C’mon, do better.

I am visiting from out of town. Wanted some fish and tried this Capn Ds. The restaurant was packed. The cashier told us there was only one cook and that they were very backed up. I did have to wait a while for my food but I didn’t mind. Was very impressed that the cashier checked each order before calling out our numbers. Food was fresh and exactly what I ordered. Good job!!

One of the best if not the best Captain D’s. I’ve been to many other locations and this location many times. The food prep is consistently done well. The grilled whitefish is hardly ever overcooked. Great staff even on a busy day.
