At our Pell City, AL location, we are part of a historic seafood tradition. Captain D’s Seafood Restaurant first opened its doors back on August 15, 1969. A lot has changed since then, but our commitment to serving freshly prepared seafood at a great value has been our core mission from the beginning. Known originally as Mr. D’s Seafood and Hamburgers, Captain D’s was opened in Donelson, Tennessee. From the very start, we set out to provide quality seafood at reasonable prices, a concept that was revolutionary at the time.

On July 15, 2025 at 6:47 PM, the manager on duty cursed at me and made threatening remarks instead of addressing the unsafe food. That behavior alone should be disqualifying for anyone in a management role.
This raises major questions about:
• Corporate food safety oversight
• Management training and accountability
• Whether this location is compliant with health regulations at all
If corporate standards were being enforced, raw seafood would not be served and customers would not be verbally abused for speaking up.
Captain D’s corporate cannot claim ignorance after this. This location represents your brand, and right now it represents negligence, hostility, and risk to the public.
Until corporate takes visible action, I strongly recommend customers avoid this location entirely. Food safety and respectful treatment should not be optional.
Corporate needs to intervene immediately.
They have returned using the bottles for malt vinegar ! Seems like more details given to the dinning area too.
Surprised at how great this place is. We cleaned our plates. Grilled or fried options. Refill your drinks yourself from soft trinks or tea. The Tri-meal was my fav. Nice seating area and clean restrooms. Crispy okra was just right . We tried the spicy seasoning and everyone enjoyed it . Easy parking without traffic. Probably the best no tip restaurant.
During my visit, I was served fish that was undercooked, with the inside remaining pink and raw. Serving seafood in this condition is unsafe and poses a legitimate risk of foodborne illness. This alone represents a critical failure to meet basic food safety standards.
However, the situation escalated far beyond a food quality issue.
When I brought this dangerous food condition to the attention of management, the response was not corrective or professional. On July 15, 2025 at approximately 6:47 PM, the manager on duty cursed at me and made threatening remarks instead of addressing the safety concern. This behavior was hostile, intimidating, and completely inappropriate—particularly in response to a customer raising a legitimate health issue.
To be absolutely clear:
• I was served unsafe, undercooked seafood
• Management responded with verbal abuse
• A manager used profanity and made threats rather than taking responsibility
• My safety, health, and dignity as a customer were disregarded
This conduct is unacceptable under any circumstances and raises serious concerns regarding:
• Food preparation and safety compliance
• Management training and oversight
• Customer safety protocols
• Workplace conduct standards
A manager engaging in threatening and abusive behavior while dismissing a food safety complaint represents a significant liability risk and reflects a complete breakdown of leadership at this location.
This incident is being formally documented and may be reported to the Alabama Department of Public Health and other appropriate regulatory or oversight agencies. No customer should be subjected to unsafe food, verbal abuse, or intimidation when raising legitimate concerns.
I expect an immediate and thorough response detailing:
1. How this incident will be investigated
2. What disciplinary action will be taken regarding the manager involved
3. What corrective measures will be implemented to ensure food safety and professional conduct moving forward
Failure to address this matter appropriately will only reinforce the seriousness of the issues at this location.
