After looking into the menu, I ordered beef wrapped in bay leaves, minced shrimp. I want vegetable spring rolls on the side, and they did that for me, which is where the service was good.
When I got the food, as soon as I took a bite or two of the beef rolls, I could tell that there was something wrong. It was very gamey and off taste.
I think that it was probably because of the oil that was used to deep fry. The spring rolls had a similar taste, but it wasn’t as strong as the beef.
I went up to the owner and told her about The beef, she essentially told me I don’t understand Vietnamese cuisine that I should order something else. Even though I’ve been eating Vietnamese food for over 20 years.
Also, they use really thick vermicelli noodles, almost like spaghetti.
It’s my first time walking there, definitely will not return
Dropped by Bun Saigon on Spadina in downtown Toronto and had a super satisfying meal. I ordered the dry pork chop and tofu wrap with rice, and it totally hit the spot. The pork chop was well-seasoned and grilled just right — tender with a little char. The tofu wrap was a nice surprise: crispy outside, soft inside, and paired well with the rice and fresh veggies on the side.
Bonus points: they serve tea as water, which honestly felt like the perfect touch.
It’s a casual, cozy spot with quick service and generous portions. Nothing fancy, just straight-up good food at a fair price. If you’re in the area and want something hearty and comforting without the wait, Bun Saigon is a great pick.
Would definitely come back — maybe next time I’ll try the pho!
We just went with broken rice with pork, chicken pho, and the pork and spring roll vermicelli. Yummy!
Servers are pretty friendly and quick to serve us
The Pho we ordered for the kids had way more soup than noodles, had we known we might have ordered Large bowls instead. Everything came out very quickly and presented nicely. Flavours are pretty authentic to traditional Vietnamese recipes. The spring rolls definitely look better than they tasted, the meat texture felt almost grainy – as if you ate mashed beans or something. It was different.
The family was very friendly and had great customer service. It probably wouldn’t be my “go to” every time but I would definitely come back.
In terms of pho I think other places have better broth but this is the only place where I’ve gone to and their sate is delicious! In terms of the ambience it’s a family restaurant so they sometimes have children running around and screaming…. if you want good food I’d still say come here
I’d recommend this place and say try the sate beef noodle soup.. I think it’s number 117. It’s spicy and has a peanut butter taste!
