Avoid this place like the plague!! Please note that at an average of 4.0 stars, this is still just about the worst rated restaurant on Franklin Street. Every 5 star review oddly mentions some kind of personal connection they made with the owner. Who goes to restaurants to meet the owner? I don’t. I go for the food and hardly ever meet the owner. Read all of the 1 start reviews. Therein lies the truth. We made a big mistake by not following this advice and figuring it must be good if it’s on Franklin St.

5 stars are not enough. The owner here is amazing and so special. My Dad has been in the hospital over a month and my mom has not left his side. She requested a BBQ sandwich when I came to visit. We called in for take out. They were not even open yet and he said he would make sure to have my food ready. He was super accommodating and friendly, even tossed in some free banana pudding. Not many people will openly admit they will be praying for my family, even asked for my Dad’s name. I will definitely be back for sure. They had great food and such a big heart. Please support small local businesses. This man works so hard to provide great quality food for his community. Thank you for your kindness sir!!!!!

As a New Yorker visiting Chapel Hill for the first time, I made sure to check out Blue’s restaurant. The food was absolutely amazing. I ordered the ribs with a side of mac and cheese, and they were so deliciously smokey that they practically fell off the bone. My wife isn’t usually a fan of BBQ, but she really enjoyed the teriyaki chicken with baked beans. I highly recommend stopping by Blue’s if you’re in the area. The Andy and the staff, were very welcoming and made us feel right at home. We’ll definitely be back for another visit.

Blues on Franklin is an awesome place for authentic smoked meat. On my first visit, we met the owner, Andrew, and he showed us the smoker. The smell was amazing but we smelled like smoke by the time we left the restaurant. He sent out some burnt tips for us to try and then I just told him to bring us whatever he recommended. We ended up having some pulled pork, deep fried okra, fantastic curly fries, and other delicious items.

I eat at literally dozens of barbecue restaurants all over the country. No less than 6 in the last 7 days. Eating at barbecue restaurants and trying regional styles is something I take very seriously.

One of my all-time favorite restaurants!! The ribs are some of the best I’ve ever had, and the chicken filet sandwich is 10x better than Chik Fil-A. Family owned and operated- Andrew cooks everything himself and adds the perfect touches to every dish. His wife makes the most amazing deserts- the banana pudding is out of this world. They make you feel like family when you’re there. We love coming back here as often as we can! I ate half my green beans before I remembered to take a picture- they were too good!

By far the best Carolina barbecue I’ve had. Delicious meal, great sides, and great service. The owner, Andrew, is the nicest man and really makes you feel special at his family restaurant. Family owned and operated. I will be coming back here every time I visit chapel hill.

We walked into this restaurant a year ago and no one came to greet us at the door so we left. We should’ve known and never returned. The location and atmosphere are great so we decided to give it another try. Big mistake. The service was awkward every step of the way and we got one napkin each to eat bbq. We had to get up and get our own. The menu claims the meat is smoked in house but it was all salty and dry as if it had been microwaved. Even the mac n cheese was salty. I’m sure this place only stays alive because of unknowing out-of-towners.

Food was subpar at best. Chicken tenders tasted like they were Tyson and the macaroni and cheese tasted like Kraft. Fries were unique, but not horrible. Brisket (or BBQ as the manager seems to think, but it definitely isn’t) was just okay and the tea was horrific. Service was fast, but we were the only patrons. Bill was $104 dollars with a 20% tip for four people (one of those being a toddler), so a little high for the food quality. Also, they charged me for an extra side we didn’t order or get. But the worst part is, they bring you the machine to pay the bill and then stand there while you put in the tip. I just find that unprofessional for servers. Overall, I wouldn’t recommend.

I know I’m just a person who doesn’t know anything about cooking barbecue but for one thing is that I know it’s not supposed to be served cold and overcooked. Everything was less than terrible except for the ribs even though they weren’t fall off the bone but it still tasted good. The worst part about this is that the waiters have to suffer the backlash of all of the negative comments. It’s not their fault if they bring out the wrong meal it’s the person in the kitchen and that happens to be the owner. At this point the owner should close the place forever or until he can find more employees and new recipes for food or hire a actual chef who knows how to cook.
