Southern BBQ Bliss with Pet‑Friendly Flair

From the moment you arrive, it feels like stepping into a Southern home—complete with extra sugar and 100% hospitality. The pet-loving owners roll out the red carpet for both you and your furry family members. Their spacious pet-friendly deck means no one gets left out of the joy, especially pups who appreciate a shaded spot and a water bowl.

Service & Ambience
Friendly, down-to-earth staff greet you with genuine smiles—service that’s warm and welcoming, just like the South. Several reviewers say the owners personally check in to make sure everything’s going well ).

Portion Size & Value
Expect large servings that leave bellies full and hearts happy.

Flavor Profile
Their hickory-smoked meats—pulled pork, brisket, chicken—are slow-cooked and juicy. We had brisket plate with two sides. Food was fresh and delicious

Pet-Friendly Vibes
The outdoor deck isn’t just pet-friendly—it’s a highlight. Guests love bringing their dogs, and the owners make it special with bowls and shade.
Owner paid special attention to our big baby. Brought him treats and asked multiple times if we needed water for him

Harding working good ole American family owned business

As a local at one time we ate here often. We decided to try it again after the remodel. It’s a great remodel, but, the food is not the same. The portions are very small and the prices aren’t. We spent $36 for a sandwich with onion rings and a pork plate. There may have been a quarter of a cup of BBQ on my sandwich. You tasted more bun than BBQ as you will see in the picks. Sorry, I won’t be back.

What can I say about this place other it was amazing. I can safely say I’ve never had a more tender and tasteful half a slab of ribs. No need for toothpicks with this meat. I was able to pull out all 6 bones with next to no meat left on them. I topped my meal with corn on the cob and fried okra. My mom got two generous scoops of the BBQ chicken salad with collard greens and fried okra. My husband got pulled pork plate with corn on the cob and French fries. All that good for a little over $30.

This is a small hole in the wall BBQ stand with every bit of southern charm. I highly recommend this place.

Unfortunately, we passed by this little gold mine several times before stopping. We appreciate the cleanliness and tasty food from this cute little Mother and Son restaurant. The pitmaster really knows his stuff!! And the homemade sides were very tasty.

Photo is adult size portion of the brisket sandwich I received. Portion sizes are TINY!! The meat portions were the same size as the kids menu sandwich. Brisket was mostly fat on one sandwich which any good brisket has fat, but not a majority. The gal who took my payment via debit arc was wearing food prep gloves and didn’t seem to change them. She didn’t prepare my food but shows their cleanliness practices.

Their smoker is propane based, and I bet they only throw in pellets or chips to encourage flavor unlike a true smoker.

Disappointing.
We ordered the BBQ Plate with chicken, potato salad and coleslaw, Brisket, brunswick stew, and collard greens.
On the plus side, the place was very clean, the staff were friendly and understood what we were asking about when we asked about gluten allergy concerns and nothing we had tasted bad.
However, the “BBQ Chicken” was a portion far smaller than I would put on a small sandwich and was sliced as if I had ordered it for school lunches from a deli counter in a grocery store. The level of smoke was marginal at best. Again, it tasted and looked like sandwich meat from the deli. The potato salad was quite plain and again in a portion cup the size I would put on a child’s meal. The coleslaw was a bit over sweet and the texture was off putting because of an inconsistent chop/shred that left almost one third of the tiny portion in hunks of cabbage too large for a single bite. The brisket was decent in flavor but could have used more salt and a good bit more smoke. The stew had good flavor but was barely warm. The collards were the only thing we wouldn’t have changed in any way except portion size.
The house sauces on the table tasted almost identical. The “sweet” was only slightly sweeter than the other two sauces. The “regular” was exactly that. Not a lot of depth or distinguishing flavor from the other two sauces. And the “hot” wasn’t. I mean not at ALL. I am VERY sensitive to spice and I didn’t consider any different than the “regular” except in consistency and a slight color difference.
As a place to get a meal when on the road and NEEDING a gluten allergy safe selection, it’ll work. But just be aware you won’t be leaving stuffed or even comfortably full, and it won’t be a place you’ll specifically seek out for unique or memorable southern BBQ.

If I could give this restaurant 0 stars I would! We have been going to this establishment for the past 15years! 1st of all it is under new ownership! Owner is not friendly @ all! Former owners were AMAZING! She seemed very spaced out while trying to take our order! We received our food which was subpar! Before new ownership the bbq, Smoked chicken salad, fried pickle spears & corn nuggets were a must have on our multiple mountain trips every year! Now portions are much smaller, price is higher…a side of mac and cheese (which was mostly water ) was $4.00. Once we received our food my daughter attempted to use the squeeze bottle of barbecue sauce when the entire bottle top ruptured and barbecue sauce went everywhere on all of us! No help was offered, someone removed the bottle during our chaos of going to the bathroom to try and wash off the disaster which was everywhere! I approached the new owner and suggested that some help would have been a nice gesture…her response was “I was busy” WTH…there was no one there but us @ that moment! WOW…we will NEVER stop here ever again! Don’t waste a trip the food and service were TERRIBLE! The new owner is a disgrace!

If you’ve eaten here before, the original owner no longer runs or is associated with the restaurant. What is left is overpriced cheap food. One of their original staples was their homemade chips, but they have now been replaced with refried Lays Potato Chips. Overall a sad experience from a once great restaurant.
