A really nice vegan place to eat in that whole area. The food is freshly cooked in front of you and is delicious. It’s more like a home made food than restaurant food. The owner were really friendly.

Absolutely incredible, I would recommend someone visit Bridgeport for this place alone. The history of the place, the owners, the incredibly nice stuff, all of this was fascinating. As a queer vegan, it was humbling to be in this space.

Great spot for browsing feminist books, eating vegan meals that taste home cooked, talking to interesting people, chilling in a quirky vintage atmosphere, and learning about the colorful history of this establishment. If it’s nice out you can sit outside, with a nice view of the water. Order at the desk as you walk in, brows the books and weaving supplies until you are called, get your food from the window, choose somewhere to eat, and when you are done you leave the dirty dishes in the bus tubs. It’s a lively, unique experience

A perfect evening! This is the coolest restaurant EVER. The food is beautiful, tasteful and just incredible. The carrot lox, vegan cheese and the pineapple curry were our favorites. And definitely get the chocolate pudding for dessert. We had such a lovely night with Carol, Noel and we even got to meet Selma.. I highly recommend Bloodroot and I can’t wait to go back again!

I was happy to find this vegan restaurant. The place is cozy with home style tables and chairs but some of the chairs needed replacing due to sinking seat cushions.

I recently visited Bloodroot Vegetarian restaurant and was blown away by the quality of food and service. The menu was extensive, with plenty of options for vegans and vegetarians alike. I tried the Jamaican jerk “chicken,” which was delicious. The service was top-notch and the ambiance of the restaurant was cozy. The owners of the restaurant were warm and welcoming, making me feel right at home. The restaurant owners hospitality added to the overall experience.

It’s a very special place and should be on every vegetarian’s list of places to visit. Food is great even if choices are somewhat limited. Service is self-service. The atmosphere is wonderful, though they might be judging you.

At once you’ll realize you are in a unique place; one that many of us hunger for in every meaning of the word. When most restaurants disappear after 3 years this has endured 45+, and a part is

The food is excellent, but the atmosphere is decidedly NOT feminist. Two older, wealthy white women sit and supervise a staff of younger women of color trapped behind a counter in a kitchen – the white women are aggressive and rude, and the younger working staff don’t even have chairs.

This glorious, independent vegetarian restaurant is an absolutely beautiful place to visit, eat, and enjoy the welcoming, colorful, offbeat atmosphere. The food is delicious (the vegan lasagne and vegetarian meatloaf are both wonderful) and the staff are super friendly. The restaurant is self-service: you order at the counter, they call your name when your food’s ready, and then you take your food to wherever you want to eat. They have outdoor seating on the patio so you can eat safely outdoors, or you can buy food to go. I’m so glad to see the independent restaurants flourishing in the midst of chain-restaurant expansion, especially since this restaurant is feminist-oriented and feels like a safe space.
