Randomly choose Black Duck after an Aquarium visit. 3 adults, 3 kids under 11 and not only was the food and atmosphere spot on, but adding extra stars for the super well made adult drinks. Service was smooth and quick and our server Hailey was patient and attentive. Plus, we sat on the deck with fun water views. Will be back!!

We absolutely love The Black Duck! A long time Westport classic, directly on the water, is very easy to drive to, just off Exit 17 from I95, and right at the Westport train station for a convenient place to meet up with friends coming in by train. The ambiance is genial and friendly and an easy place to see old friends and make new friends. A lovely place to watch the sunset during the happy hour food and drink specials. Just the place for a full lobster dinner and more fresh seafood . Let’s say a variety of excellent bands, local and otherwise, a great place to go dancing. Even Karaoke from time to time.

While the well-located place did have a pleasant feel, and the service had no-nonsense charm and efficiency about it, the food was, sadly, a mixed bag. For about $100 (including $17 tip) we had very good stuffed clams, freshly made fries, a not-bad clam chowder, kid cheeseburger, which was unfortunately rejected by our ordinarily burger-happy child, and an audaciously, barely edible lobster roll and a shrimp poboy ($26 and $18, respectively). It’s just really hard to speak charitably about the latter two, as they were spectacularly ultra-cooked–a desiccated, once-in-a-lifetime rubbery affair, which perhaps was prepared by an OK chef on the previous day, and since then, reheated over and over again. They were sub-par for even the worst beach-front fast order counter.

Have not been here in quite a while. Got the breakfast burrito that was very good. Hash browns were fresh and delicious! Enjoyed sitting outside. Was a nice day!

We were looking for casual pub food and we found it. Afterwards, we wish we hadn’t. It should be noted, however, that we were told the regular cook was off that day, so our food experience could be the exception. It should also be noted that we weren’t told the cook was off until after our orders were placed, food was served, and we’d had an issue. I’d suggest telling customers sooner…like before they order. Or maybe close the kitchen and just sell beer when the cook calls out.

Even if you don’t plan to stop in Westport, you should break up your journey and head to the Black Duck. It’s 4 minutes from the train station, and well worth the detour. Snag a table on the deck out back and try their popular burgers, hot dogs, and sandwiches. The sauces on the burgers make them very tasty, and you won’t be disappointed by the cheesesteaks. There’s a great range of drinks including lagers, wines, and cocktails. The service is so unbelievably friendly that you feel right at home! The bathroom could use a little refurb, but the whole place is pretty charming.

Don’t judge a book, or in this case a duck, by it’s cover…this place is great! First time I’ve ever been here was today. Friendly and casual atmosphere, good food, good service, attentive staff. Fish tacos (special for the day) were delicious! I’ll gladly go back.
