Great experience with our server Bruce! He’s delightful and truly a breath of fresh air compared to newer servers in the industry. The beggar’s purses came a little bit overcooked, as did the lamb I ordered. I asked for it medium but it came out medium-well to well done from the inside pieces out. Overall a fine dining experience which I found fairly priced for the portions, great atmosphere and excellent service.

What a special find!

From outside you wouldn’t necessarily know there is such an amazing restaurant within this hotel.

We made reservations for three weeks in advance which I recommend. Upon arrival, we were quickly seated in the back by the gorgeous fireplace. The restaurant is quaint, intimate, and quiet, even though there were a few large groups and quite a few couples dining that evening, you wouldn’t have known.

We were celebrating a birthday and truly enjoyed not being rushed. The food was delicious from start to end.

We loved the Amuse Bouche which set the tone for the remainder of the meal.

Our appetizers were equally delish; Beggar’s Purses and Crab Rangoons were different than the usual, a special treat for sure!

We followed those with gorgeous entrées; Seafood Risotto which was the best she’s ever had, the Vegetarian Mushroom Risotto was cooked to perfection, and the Stuffed Ravioli was just the right amount of sauce to pasta.

We will return for sure!

This is an amazing place for dinner. The lamb and roast beef were delicious. Best of all was our server Bruce! He was super nice, so friendly. If you’re lucky enough to have him at your table, make sure you get a spooky story from him!!

Soup and salad were great as was the dessert. Unfortunately the stuffing was very dry and had little taste. The turkey was generous portion. Gravy was good we asked for extra and it was given at no charge. Vegetables were also good nicely al dente. Service was good. Found it a little strange that the utensils and glassware were mismatched for the preliminary course. The wine glasses and utensils for the main meal did match.

I like trying new things. I never had Wild Bore before. So last night supper I had Wild Game Trio. It was very delicious and the wine that the server suggested went very well with the meal. I what to say to the chef and the kitchen staff and the server thank you 4 the nice experience I had last night.

Appetizers were underwhelming and main course was ok. Very expensive and over hyped for quality of food. Service was terrible. Cocktail list is small and they don’t make anything not on the list. Very disappointing, especially for the price.

The 8oz prime rib was tough to cut and chewy. It lacked any type of flavor. By the way, unless it’s a Canadian thing, who puts beef gravy on prime rib? It needs the au jus. The baked potato looked and tasted like it had been sitting under a heat lamp all day.

Going on a bit of a rant because I found the experience at this restaurant startlingly excellent.

Hard to express what a pleasant surprise every moment of our time was at Bistro Stefan. It’s a kind of a weird step back to a simpler time… like going for dinner with your grandparents in the late 80s. Remember when restaurants had like themes, it wasn’t all another take on stark Milestones decor. They were warm and welcoming. They had stuff up on the wall collected by the owner while on a civil war battlefield trip. Each restaurant was different and felt different.

This place has a feel to it, it has personality, stone and wood, a fire is going, it’s warm and friendly but professional. Guests are laughing and celebrating. Everyone is having nice wine and seems happy. Their is ambience, but when you are seated, you are in your own little world. It is comfortable.

It takes it self just seriously enough to put out A+ food that is interesting without being pretentious. It’s perfectly clean but doesn’t feel sterile.

Then staff are well dressed and professional but also, like the space, have personality and are warm and friendly. It was my first time but I felt like a regular. We were made to feel special. Some great starter bread with Asiago. A bit more bread, a surprise small bit of cucumber with salmon pate. A surprise strawberry chocolate at the end.

For food, everything was excellent. Fresh, flavourful, beautiful.
Started with the thin sliced beef tenderloin, fresh, with delicious aioli. Absolutely brand new, picked that day baby arugula. Just pulling the best out of each ingredient. You know when you eat a piece of meat and it tastes like an enhanced version of the flavour you were expecting. That’s what happening.

The lobster salad come out and your like woah, okay, I’m going to have to fight this thing. It’s a huge head of lettuce, and covered in bacon, sharp cheese, and a bunch of other stuff. It’s maybe seared. It huge and great and you’ve got to cut it up and mix it like a pot pie. If you want the best Caesar salad your mom makes, go to Chez Piggy. If you want to do battle with an ascended salad god, go to Bistro Stefan.

My wife had the seafood resoto. Flavourful, butter-like scallops, just delicious. We did have the desert. My wife had some sort of crepe cake deal, it sounds heavy but is light and sophisticated, a bit jammy. The chocolate cheese cake is intense. Only get it if you want to eat a brick of chocolate. It’s good but wow is it chocolate. It’s like the rest of the food in a way. It delivers on flavour in a way that is more than expected.

Anyway, this is probably the longest thing I’ve written in my life but really needed to say how thankful my wife and I are for such a lovely experience. We will be back when we can afford it. Until then we will be looking forward.
