I… have no words. This restaurant may have been the best thing Michigan had to offer during my trip. We went in on a Monday, with a party of 4. After being seated, which was almost instantly, we were given menus and waters. My only complaint for the food and drinks is the fact that we weren’t given straws, but that might be a thing that people do here? We’re not from Holland, so let me know if I’m wrong about something. We got the pretzels with mustard and beer cheese. The beer cheese was good, really rich and cheesy, but the mustard was nice and paired really well with the saltiness of the pretzel. I ordered the Beer Mac and Cheese Pizza, which is exactly what it sounds like. Pizza with no tomato sauce, topped with mozzarella, beer mac and cheese, cheddar and bacon. It reminded me of a Casey’s Breakfast Pizza, if anyone reading this knows what that tastes like. The waiter even gave Parmesan cheese when I asked. For 4 complete meals and an appetizer, the bill was about $80, which is fair, in my opinion. If I’m ever up near Holland anytime soon, I’ll definitely try it again.

Cool place with ample parking nearby. We got there later in the evening and had no wait, which was perfect for my hungry kids lol. Our server was super nice and helpful. We were seated at a high top, which I don’t love with kids, but it was ok. I got the olive burger and at first it didn’t look that appetizing but holy smokes was it good! Great flavor and cooked perfectly for how I like it. I got a side salad with it, but forgot to take a picture. My littles got, kids pizza/side of fruit, chicken tenders/fruit, cheeseburger/fries and the last one split a pizza with my husband. I will say, that pizza is not large enough to split, both would have been fine with their own pizza. It was smaller than a medium at a chain pizza joint. Their Diet Coke was perfect and my hubs and oldest got a special draft root beer. If we were here longer, we’d definitely come back again.

Good amount of beers to choose from, only one cider was available in July. They don’t have any beers that they don’t brew. Champagne of the North is good. Food is also good, we liked the loaded tots and the burgers have great fire flavor too. They have gluten free burger buns and gluten free pizza crust. No gluten free guest beer, just one cider on tap.
Service was sub par for our party, I saw other tables get much smoother service so I don’t know if we were unlucky or what. The server left us a paper slip for the beer flight selection and didn’t come back for a whooping 20 minutes. We got rushed to order food, then we didn’t get checked on for 30 minutes, we ate half our food with no drinks to go with, we never got any water served until I asked for some after finishing eating. Half of our experience was trying to get our server’s attention, the other half was being DRY in a tap room. ♀️

I’m not really sure where to start. I wanted to love this place because their beer is excellent, the service was awesome and the food had great flavor.
We started out with the stoner fries. They were amazing until the last handful, I pulled an incredibly long black hair (baked into the fry batter) out of my mouth. The server handled it well and the manager came over immediately. At this point, all is well and mistakes happen. I also HATE sending food back.
Next I ordered a wedge salad with steak. The salad was great and the steak was cooked perfect to order. I was halfway finished with my salad and I find another (short black) hair under a piece of bacon. The server and manager handled it to the rest of their ability. They took the fries and the salad off the bill and gave me a 10% off for my next visit. Honestly, that was quite comical at this point.
My wife’s ordered the pizza. The crust makes or breaks a pizza and in this case broke it. Flavor and toppings were great, but the crust was horrible.
Bottom line, this falls on management/ownership. They need to get their SOPs in order. Two orders back to back is ridiculous. I won’t stop buying their beer, but I definitely won’t be back for food.

Big Lake Brewing takes care of people above all else. I have quite a few food allergies and asked for potatoes instead of rice and they accommodated my request with no issue at all and I didn’t even see an upcharge on the bill. I’ve been here dozens of times and Big Lake is one of the few places downtown that has a great atmosphere alongside great tasting high quality food. Reasonably priced too.

The staff were wonderful and I love the atmosphere. Even though I do not drink I liked seeing the variety of drinks on offer.
I liked the industrial vibe. The lighting was great and I like the openness and wood.
We had a gluten free pizza and the crust was not that great. The loaded tater tots were quite nice though.

Loved it here!! Had the dog with us, but allowed us to take him on the back patio, which had two large fire tables with great ambiance. Pizza was really good… a touch small, so ordered two! Mexican Lager was terrific, but friendly bartender at back bar really made for a great night!!

food is great, creative menu, well worth a try. i have been here twice and both times the food did not disappoint! my complaint starts with the industry norm now of food runners, HATE IT! i prefer my server to serve since they know what i ordered and don’t have to ask. the other problem with it is just what happened tonight that happens often with runners. we happen to order our appetizer to share with our friends at the same time as we ordered our entree. i almost said to the server to make sure that it doesn’t all come at once, but she seemed experienced and i thought, don’t insult her that way. well i should have because after waiting here comes the runner with all 4 entrees and the appetizer. i certainly can’t be in the minority of people that prefer to have time to finish an appetizer before an entree. a server should be aware of when food is going out, but with runners, they are disengaged from their primary task, taking care of the people at the table. and then expect me to hit the pre-lit 22% tip button, nope.
