One-of-a-kind hole in the wall bar and grill, or could say hole in the ground, as this place is located beneath an old, historic hotel (now office building). Our server Julie was kind and welcoming, and all the staff we interacted with were beyond pleasant. The food was just average – chicken wrap and chicken quesadillas simply ok to good, but not great. However, we enjoyed our experience overall, and are glad to have stopped by to grab a bite and a beer.

We stoped for lunch on our way through Charleston. The restaurant was clean, the two gals working were incredibly friendly (Nicolette served us at the bar), and our food was delicious! We got a Ruben and a Rachel with the best onion rings I have ever had. The prices are super reasonable and the menu has all of the American staples you would expect. We also each had a cocktail that was crafted well! We don’t get to Charleston often, but we will definitely be back.

The atmosphere is nice and the staff is great. Prices are ridiculous. The food taste fine, but this isn’t the kind of establishment where you can justify paying $20 for a two hotdog meal or paying $14 for a smash burger. It’s basically a greasy spoon thinking it should be located in lower Manhattan.

First time here and I’ll be back. Good bar atmosphere and food. The Buffalo Chicken sandwich was perfect. Not too heavy, and full of flavor. The macaroni salad was tasty too. Decent beer selection. They had Stone and Breckenridge on top I would recommend stopping by and trying out The Bears Den.

You should give this place a try for lunch or dinner. The food and service is super consistent. The sandwiches are big and the fries are fresh cut. I haven’t had any issues finding parking on Capitol street. Ray’s buffalo chicken sandwich is excellent.
Update – Went for a Friday dinner. No problem parking. Service was excellent. Wings, fries, salad were very nice. Tried the pickle pizza. Would have enjoyed it with half the cheese.

Quick friendly service. Not a lot of menu options but everything we got was good. Pretty average on price and food. Really liked their fries and ranch.

Lovely service. Local flavor. Can’t speak to the rest of their food but that grilled beef salad was really good, massive and a great value.

A little hard to find but worth it. Bear’s Den inside an office building, in basement. Enter the building, go down the stairs, turn right down hallway to the entrance. I had a Ribeye Steak sandwich and my wife had a Fried Green Tomato BLT and broccoli cheddar soup. Everything was excellent.

Interesting little place. Have to look hard for there’s not a lot of signage. Look for address on the awning, step inside with a sign & arrow pointing downstairs….. walk down a small hall and voilà…. You see people sitting at tables !! Nicolette was our bartender/server. Very nice young lady. The bar stool cushions need a little TLC but the vibe is terrific.
The special today was Turkey, lettuce, tomato wrap with sweet potato fries. Large enough for us to split. It was moist, tasty & plenty of turkey on it. Definitely recommend to stop for lunch.
