Olympia’s Best Kept secret, I was in the area.So I stopped and had dinner , the polo marsala trimmed with potatoes broccoli on a scale of 1 to 10, I’d give it a 12 absolutely done to perfection! You did not want to end. Incredible, my friend had the lasagna. Absolutely fantastic as well

Service, the atmosphere, amazing! You must give this place a try one of the best I’ve had in a long time. In the corner a gentleman playing the guitar to gentle beautiful Italian music, really an incredible experience definitely give it a five-star rating all the way around, as the Italian saying goes That’s Amore!

Our first time finally trying this place and the service was on point. Prompt and friendly. Asked about dietary restrictions off the bat, which we do t have, but we appreciated none-the-less. Strazzoprati and Gnocci dishes we had were amazing, and also really enjoyed the fried Brussel sprouts appetizer. Topped off with a birthday candle lit tiramisu. Can’t go wrong.

Absolutely incredible Italian food. Authentic as authentic can get. I always am skeptic about the authenticity of the food, but my mind is absolutely blown. The best ragu that I’ve had from Italian restaurant that I’ve visited along the Puget sound. 100% recommended for a date night, or just a delicious dinn

We had such a wonderful experience at Basilico! From the food to the atmosphere, everything was top-notch.

I had the gluten-free lemon thyme pasta, and it was incredible. I’ve never had homemade gluten-free pasta before, and it truly exceeded my expectations. The gluten-free tiramisu was also fantastic — I haven’t had tiramisu in over 10 years since being diagnosed with celiac, and it was amazing to be able to enjoy it again.

The ambiance was perfect for date night — cozy, warm, and romantic with live music and candles on the tables.

Our waitress was wonderful: kind, attentive, and thoughtful. She asked about dietary restrictions and made sure I had gluten-free bread.

I can’t wait to go back!

We had Basilico cater our wedding. The food was out of this world. The owner himself set up and took down everything. His food made our wedding so classy. Thank you!

I’ll begin with a summary statement, which is: “Upscale reputation and prices. Reality not so much.”
I took my wife to Basilico to thank her for her support during some particularly difficult times for us. It was the day before Valentine’s Day (a Friday), so a special occasion just because of that. Normally, a restaurant with prices like Basilico’s does not fit into our modest retirement budget. But I wanted a very special experience – prices not to be an issue – to show my love for and appreciation of my wife. So, based upon the reviews I’d read of Basilico and the menu on their website, I thought Basilico was just the place I was looking for.
On-line reservations were easy to make (as long as there was availability), even though part of that confirmation process is receiving a threat of being charged for not showing up for one’s reservation. We keep our appointments, and Basilico had no payment information from me with which to carry out that threat, so I laughed it off.
When we arrived, we got a friendly greeting and were shown to our table. We ordered a glass of wine and the calamari fritti to start with, and were both seduced by the description of the lasagna, which included pancetta, pork, and beef. So we both ordered it. No specials, wines, or other menu features were mentioned to us until after we had already ordered everything, and the what was mentioned was a truffles special.
Maybe we should have asked more about the wines, but the one we ordered – the Montepulciano d’Abruzzo – was a disappointment, compared to other wines we’ve tried with that name. No one checked back to ask what we thought of it. And this is supposed to be an upscale restaurant.
The calamari fritti came fairly soon and was absolutely, perfectly done! Lightly breaded, and perfectly pan-fried just enough to be crispy and yet very tender. The aioli that came with it was very good as well. Five stars on that! No one came by to ask us what we thought of that, either.
In a short while, our lasagna arrived. We were immediately impressed by the flavorful ragu that seemed to be freshly made. My first bite had some of the meats described in the menu, and I looked forward to more of that as I worked my way through the large portion. Alas, there was none to be found until I found one more small bite in the leftovers I had taken home. My wife had the same experience with her portion. We wondered, “Where’s the meat?” The layers of pasta, cheeses and bechamel were very good, though. No one came by to ask us how were were enjoying our meal. No one came by to ask us if we wanted more wine. We’ve had more attentive service at a chain restaurant like Denny’s. We did, however appreciate that our water glasses were frequently topped off by the person who seemed to be tasked with that.
When we were no longer eating for awhile, our server came by to ask us if we wanted anything else, and we answered that since were too full for dessert, just the check please.
She took our plates and quickly boxed up our leftover lasagna, took our payment, and quickly brought back the credit card receipt, and we left within a few minutes. As we went out the door, we turned to say goodnight and thank you, and we were thanked in return.
That was our “special” dinner at Basilico. I’m pretty sure I over-tipped, but better to leave on a high note.
Will we recommend Basilico or return? Probably not, and I’m sorry to have to leave such a review about a restaurant in downtown Olympia, which badly needs good places to bring people into the city.

Went to 12/24/2025 Christmas Eve Dinner.
Food was excellent. Overall wonderful experience and value.

Thank you Giampalo and Basilico team.

Wife & I have been coming here since the Campello family owned and operated this place. We miss them, Sid, Cori, and of course, Zach too. Chef Jennifer Nelson assisted this team in serving incredible food.

Much has changed since our first visit here. Thanks to Giampalo this place is the best Italian restaurant in Thurston County.

By the way, at one point Giampalo was making sandwiches. The very best and most delicious we have ever had. If you are a Basilico guest, encourage Giampalo to return to putting this product out, if even for a limited/special run.

Thank you

Me and my husband came here for the first time today (11.9.24) for a romantic date dinner to end a date day.

Let me tell you, this place does not disappoint. It is super awesome and amazing!

First, the water they serve is super crisp. Like it’s the highest quality most crisp water I’ve ever had! I don’t know how they get the water to be so crisp, but it works!

The food is super high quality. It is a bit expensive but worth every penny!! And unlike some fancy places that have tiny portions, the portions at this place are huge!

And the vegetarian and vegan options are plentiful! My husband is vegetarian and had no issue finding multiple things he wanted!

Absolutely come to this place!

There is a serious problem when the Italian restaurant in Nisqaully, located in a strip mall is sold out at 5PM on a Friday an so you come downtown to a nearly empty Italian supposedly go to spot! No!
Service was ok-
Had one Bourbon selection a when it was made on the rocks ended up sending it back due to a floater???
Calamari appetizer was bland!
Couldn’t get enough salt on it to bring out any flavor!
Pasta was ok, but as far as expectations based off reviews we should have definitely lowered them.
To top it off after coming into the city they charge you a service fee?? On $140 bill ours was $11? WTH Olympia?
Not again!
