I like trying different diners, especially for breakfast. I was in the Ruskin area and decided to check this place out. I ordered the Kountry Boy breakfast (not misspelled). It came with two eggs, two sausage patties, two strips of bacon, biscuits and gravy, and a side. It was more than I could possibly eat. More importantly, it tasted great. Both the bacon and sausage patties tasted better than the average diner’s. The prices were fair, and I had great service, too.

We loved our lunch at Barbara’s Family Restaurant, we were allowed to bring our service dog inside, which is huge considering the extreme heat outside. She laid well under the table and enjoyed watching all the people.

Barbara’s family restaurant is a hidden gem in the Riverview and Apollo Beach area. The service from the staff and the owner was friendly, personable, and timely during my visit. The catfish was not overcooked and seasoned just right, and the collard greens were exceptionally good coming from a restaurant. The beverages are standard, but the sweet tea reminds me of the tea made by Bojangles chicken and McDonald’s. I would drink this over a soda any day. Some would say that the prices are high. What they don’t tell you is the amount of food you receive. I ordered a fish plate and had to take what I couldn’t eat home. Fridays are all you can eat fish, and you better get there early. The parking lot and restaurant fill up quickly. The one glaring fault is the size of the restaurant, and the bathrooms are located outside the restaurant. Definitely needs an upgrade in size to accommodate the great service. Aside from this, it’s an awesome place to eat.

Our first time here tonight, and what a delightful surprise! The atmosphere is very friendly, very clean and down to earth. One of us had the homemade meatloaf dinner, one had the homemade Chipotle Burger and the third had the Barbara’s club sandwich. All three were homemade, served hot and with a smile. The homemade carrot cake was fresh out of the oven, still warm. Everything was delicious, the service was wonderful, and the cost was very reasonable. It is perhaps the best kept secret in Ruskin you absolutely must try!!!!! You won’t regret steeping inside.

They had a guy playing music and singing in the corner of an already tiny space, was too loud, couldn’t have a conversation. Server was rude… food was low quality. I did enjoy my side salad. Though I felt like it was a bother to ask for salad instead of French fries.

Small, family run place. Fried fish is the big thing on Fridays. Southern fried steak was good. Mashed potatoes were thick along with the white gravy. Ham and turkey club sandwich was better than most.

My wife and I were on a Sunday drive and this place jumped out at us as we got hungry. The food was worth the wait. Be patient as they are short staffed. OMG!!!! When you are eating you don’t even feel like you are in a restaurant. It does taste like you are home. Can’t wait to go back again and just try the desert. Again be patient as they are short staffed but so worth it!!!!!

Great food! Really fresh fish. Delicious. Ordered the Grouper and the Tilapia. Both deep fried, but don’t feel or taste greasy at all. Great taste. Hidden gem in Ruskin. Ordered to go, but regret not staying. I should have dined in. I highly recommend this place.
