We always have great experiences at Bar Harbor! We love the food, atmosphere, and service! It is such a fun place for an evening out! My favorite is the crab ragoon risotto!

Ok… so going to be honest, we were a party of 13. I really appreciated our waitress because she gave HONEST opinions of the food. The menu options are quite limited. I’ll provide the feedback from our party as I remember it. Half of us liked our food, other half didn’t (rightfully so, keep reading)
I got the short rib. Super tender. Did not like the veal gravy. Mashed lacked flavor.
My oldest got the tuna ahi salad, she loved it. My middle daughter got the burger, said it was ok. My youngest got tortellini with chicken, said it did the job. 2 others got chicken Cesar salad, hard to mess up. Another person got the calamari and said the batter was good. A few ppl got the shrimp as an addition to their meal. All approved but one said they were undercooked. Crab cake was way too fishy. The seasonal meatballs were good. Bread basket was good. Another friend got the pork chop and said it was good. Several friends got steak, asked for it to be medium and it came out well done. So overall the kitchen was the issue.

Bar Harbor: Not What It Used to Be

I used to work at Bar Harbor back in the ‘90s, and it was truly a gem. Back then, the food was top-notch, the atmosphere felt special, and the place had that warm, supper club charm that made you want to linger. Sadly, those days seem long gone.

We had reservations (because you must have them — no walk-ins allowed anymore), but even then, don’t bother showing up early and thinking you might actually sit early. Nope. You’ll stand there awkwardly, staring at your empty table, while they remind you your time hasn’t come yet. It’s a strange, unwelcoming vibe — like they’re letting you in begrudgingly.

The service? Underwhelming at best. No warmth, no bread service (which used to be a staple here), and very little sense that they care if you come back.

The food? Definitely not what it once was. I ordered the surf and turf, which turned out to be tough & chewy on the steak side and just okay on the shrimp side. The mashed potatoes were honestly the best part of the plate — which kind of tells you everything you need to know.

My son ordered the macaroni and cheese, and to my dismay, it looked suspiciously like Kraft straight out of the box. Not what I expected from a place that used to set the bar high.

The menu is much smaller now, and the drinks were nothing to write home about. Overall, the whole experience just left me wondering what happened to the Bar Harbor I knew and loved.

Here’s hoping they can bring back some of the magic — and maybe some bread while they’re at it.

Bar Harbor Supper Club hosted the antique and classic boat show The Weeknd of September 13th and 14. It’s definitely worth checking out. Here’s some pictures of the boats I like the best. Keep in mind there is bus shuttle service available as parking is minimal

So yesterday, my wife and I ordered the ribeye steak. Had issues with their meat at this location before so I thought we would give it another try and 90% of the ribeye was fat and grissily. In a very nice way I let the waitress know that she should go show the cook this. She never came back to the table for 20 minutes. And when she did come back, all she did is take the plates away and uneaten food. So another 20 minutes passed She managed to bring the bill over never mentioned anything whether or not she had a conversation with the chef. And I noticed our $65 ribeye was still on the receipt. Was never asked if we wanted anything else. so we paid her bill in full and left Her around a $44 tip in cash.

Lady never came back to the table to pick up the bill and see if we need a change.

I’m telling you straight up do not order any steaks pork chops from this place you will not be happy..

DONT WASTE Your time ! Visited for a birthday. Made reservations weeks in advance. First hostess very sweet – had a great conversation upon checking in. Came back under her direction and 2nd hostess who has nose ring & tattoos completely rude and almost acted in a power manner. She ruined the night, then had a break down slammed down menus, and said I was yelling at her. Other guests could not believe how she acted over me returning to be seated and filling the direction of the first hostess.
Embarrassing – my guests seen her body language across the room.
Asked for a manager , never showed up. Then a server approached us and sat us. Again no manager contact.
No matter the situation – a special night was ruined, $700 dollar dinner ruined, and no sorry just continued stares from a food runner and the hostess.
We have gone there many times before. This place is horrible and others have posted similar
Situations.
Bar staff advised the place has changed and they won’t return. There was a very mean, and bad vibe. To ruin an evening with no contact is super sad. Family flew in and we bragged about this place. Again. Read the reviews – not a good place any longer and zero contact for ruining our night .

My wife loves Bar Harbor. She insists we stop in every time we are in the area.

Overall, the food is pretty spendy, but depending on what you get it’s worth it (especially when you compare it to some of the other more expensive spots on the lake).

They have a great patio with an outdoor bar, firepit, and even chairs on the lawn. Lots of dock space if you’re going by boat.

Service has always been great. Food comes out pretty quick, always fresh, and very consistent. Their cheesy au gratin potatoes are awesome! My wife typically gets the filet mignon or the prime rib (which is HUGE!). I enjoy the surf and turf, or the burger.

The side salads that come before the meal are also really good, I typically get the cesar.

Waitress was very knowledgeable and helpful with our drink and food order in 2017 & 2018, ( both reservation were on Mother’s day). The appetizer and food order came out in a timely matter. All five of us ordered sea food. Salmon, Walleye, Lobster/Crab, Surf and Turf. The Walleye and Lobster were slightly over cooked, (2017), 2018 perfectly cooked. All the meals had good flavor. The bruschetta appetizer and house salad with a child fork were excellent. We sat in a booth and seats were uncomfortable after sitting for a while,2017. In 2018, we sat at a booth over looking the harbor, A+.
Prices are high, $35-$60 for a meal,
(prices went up from 2017). The atmosphere, location and service did help rationalize the final bill.
