Backside has a kids menu, booths, bar seating and large tables for big parties. The selection is great! They keep a seasonal menu of a variety drinks. They even have house made root beer. My husband thought it was heavy on the licorice, but still very delicious.
My favorite meal here is the blackberry jalapeño grilled cheese. It is unique and addicting. You can also add onion or bacon to really pack the flavors.
My daughter always gets the kids cheese pizza. I’d like to comment that as parents, we love eating her leftover pizza (it’s more like an adult portion) because Backside uses an authentic, fancy pizza oven that makes it taste great. The crust is crispy and thin.
My husband always gets a boring Cobb salad but hey, he loves it! Add some crispy chicken on it and it’s perfect. He says he’s being healthy and then steals all my fries!! Did I forget to mention how amazing the fries are? So crunchy and not thin like shoestring fries, but are a similar texture.

Great atmosphere and nice vibe
inside with a cute little outside seating area. Love the tables inside with a large round table great for a group of ten to be able to sit and chat around. Food and beer were good. Nice place to stop when traveling. Will for sure be back.

So the people were nice, but our table was absolutely filthy. Its like multiple boards fixed together for the tabletop, but it was sticky and where the pieces of boards but up together theres seams, that are filled with rotten crumbs and grime getting darker towards the edges where people spill food. This Is gross.
The Food: I personally had the teriyaki burger, done well, added bacon and asked for no tomato. Its a good burger. Both mine and my husband’s onion rings came to the table burnt, we just didn’t eat them. My son’s fries were fantastic.
Drinks: the mimosa flight was delightful
I am an official fan of the lemon lavender.
My husband was unimpressed by his beer.

Double Bloody Mary for brunch seemed like a good choice. It looked delicious. Packed with extra stuff, olives, pepperoni stick, celery, carrot, pickles, onions, peproncini, lemon and lime. The flavor was very underwhelming because while it was ordered as spicy and did have a slight kick, the overall flavors were not balanced. For the meal, we ordered the breakfast burrito covered in sausage gravy. The gravy was really sweet and did not compliment the flavor of the breakfast burrito. Sadly, I did not get a pic of the meal, but have included a few of the Bloody Mary. Remodeled outdoor seating was outstanding.

Surprisingly delicious food & mixed drinks. Our fourtop loved everything that came out from the kitchen. We tried most of the food menu and the entire cocktail menu and I’d recommend it all. Came in on a Friday night, would have assumed it was a social club for the waitresses because they just crowded at the bar and chatted most of our stay. It was not busy – more than half of the tables were empty. Watched a waitress step over squished tomatoes 4 times before pointing out the hazard …only for her to acknowledge it and proceed to step over them 2 more times and seat people walking over them… Tables have grooves in them that are full of the crumbs of other meals. Really would suggest management clean those out and fill the grooves in with epoxy to make a flat surface. A little bumpy in the presentation, but excellent food for anywhere in Oregon.

I am a big fan of the pizza at the Backside in Roseburg and figured this would be the same. The pizza that was brought up was black at least 3/4 of the small pizza and the waitress knew and said “ I know it’s a little burned but do you still want it”. We asked nicely for them to make another, no biggie at this point. Then another person brought the second pizza put it down and walked away with an attitude. We had to go up and ask for plates and the ranch we ordered. We tried to eat this one and it was so raw the dough squished in my hand. We then asked for the check to just be done with the situation as they obviously didn’t know how to use the brick oven. If they were kind and apologized I would have understood but I felt retaliated against because we didn’t want to eat or pay for a small 3/4 burnt pizza that cost 17$.

The chalkboard sign outside, had “Pizza” written, as one of the specials & then the menu too, had a very nice selection of wood oven fired Pizzas. I was excited to try the Pizza, being we were visiting from up North in Oregon. I picked the Pizza, that I was eager to try, my dining partners were then ready to order too. The waitress came, asked what we would like & as soon as I said the name of the pizza, she said their pizza oven hadn’t been working at all that day. I pointed out that the chalkboard sign out front, which was obviously written on for that days specials, had “Pizza” written on it. She said oh yes, brunch ended a little while ago. So, which was it? How did they serve brunch pizza earlier that day, when I was told that the Pizza oven was broken & hadn’t worked all day? Yet, they served Pizza earlier for brunch!? Huh?! Ummmmm…yeah, well ok… Anyhow, I had her leave, so I could make s different menu choice. A large group came in & one of the female patrons literally sat & stared us down, mean mugging my Daughter & I, from the time she sat down, until we left, after we got done eating. I placed my new order, for a Cheeseburger with fries, my Daughter ordered a Hawaiian Chicken Burger with fries, her Husband ordered an Elk Burger with Sweet Potato Tots. All the food was good & the Waitress was nice, but why she or someone else, didn’t go out to the front & erase the word Pizza from the chalkboard sign, puzzles me. Also, when she sat us down, she pointed out the menus location & never made mention, that the whole section on the menu for Pizza, was unavailable, she waited until after I placed my order for Pizza, to tell me! If my experience would have been better, I wouldn’t mind going back down to Sutherlin to try the Pizza, but based on my experience, I won’t go back. I realize that the patron giving my Daughter & I, such a mean & awkward staredown for the whole time we were there, is not the fault of the restaurant or the Waitress. If the Female Patron is a regular, my Daughter & I would not be comfortable in her presence again. As far as Covid precautions, no masks worn by staff. As far as other precautions go, Red pepper flakes Shakers, Salt & Pepper Shakers, napkins & menus, all on the table, being touched by everyone before & after us. The absence of the Covid precautions, do not make a difference to me, but it may make a difference to others, which is why it is included in my review. Cute place, good food, pleasant, smiley & friendly Waitress, just a bad experience.

Best onion rings I’ve had in a long time and generous portion. I had the Greek pizza and hubby had the blackberry grilled cheese – we were both happy campers! Oh and good beer.

This will be our first take on the outpost, we did breakfast since our town is limited in this offering. Food was good, a great staff similar to the one in Roseburg. We really were impressed with Kim, she seemed to do it all. I
Food: great, different kind of gravy not sausage gravy FYI.
Service: 100% on point!
Price: competitive and waiting was not an issue. Be mindful that if you get the root beer it’s made their and on tap therefore you don’t get free refills and each one cost. All the other fountainsnare free refills.
Environment: clean, has outside eating options. parking could be better but Sutherlin is very small regardless.
