Back 40 and Dutch Mill in Bluffton were the only restaurants my family would ever take me to eat when I was little.

We recently visited for the first time since covid and our expectations were more than exceeded. The food has always been good but the atmosphere was always the real draw. We were honestly shocked at how great the food was this time! We came on a Saturday evening, there was Prime Rib and Brisket included on the buffet and we added 2lbs of Crab legs for an additional fee. My husband said the pulled pork was great and he’s basically a BBQ connoisseur. The quality of the food was exceptional and our waitress was so attentive and friendly. The man who cut and served the meat really seems to enjoy his job and even took time to explain the cooking process to my husband. As always the atmosphere was cozy and intriguing especially for the children. It was absolutely worth every penny and we highly recommend The Back 40 Junction to everyone we know.

Highly recommend you check out this restaurant ~ yummy buffet with unique, rustic decor. Homey and cozy feel. Excellent service and reasonable prices. Overall food was really good but Some foods were just okay, nothing was bad, well except maybe the vinegar mayo coleslaw. I hate vinegar and expected just mayo flavor. Great desserts.

I usually don’t like buffets because it’s mediocre food they can’t keep cold or hot enough. But this is the first one I’d say has great food. I ate at one near hocking hills two weeks ago that was less $$ but also terrible food. I feel like this buffet was actually very good and compared to dinner somewhere else it’s reasonably priced.
Our server Ashley was personable and attentive to our dishes.
The gardens and decor outside were very neat. I know people like to take pictures with the train. Inside it looks like all my ancestors garages exploded into one building. Some in my group thought this was neat but I found it overwhelming and a distraction from the main event = the food.
It’s about 40 minutes from us in Fort Wayne so we won’t frequent but we’d go back if in the area.

My sister and I went there on a Friday eve. We knew nothing about this place. We were told it was a great place. The crab legs were cold and so skinny. So didn’t eat them. We were charged $80.00 a piece . Of course we had to pay it, or what would have happy. Nowhere in this place did it say it was crazy experience like that. I’m glad they are closing.

I am updating and rewriting my review upon further investigation. I now see that the back 40 does still offer all you can eat crab leg it just so happens to be every other Friday night back to happy back to everything‘s good. I was going to be very sad. The back 40 is fantastic food and great staff and great service 10 out of 10 recommend

A group of us went there for supper for our mom’s birthday. The waitress and hosts were all very nice and did a great job. The food wasn’t that great, and the price is way too high. I only got a soup and salad and paid $13. The salad wasn’t that fresh, and they had clam chowder and vegetable soup, which I dont like either one ( I know some ppl like those kinds of soups, and it’s not the Back it’s fault), and the cottage cheese tasted sour (I could only take one bite of the cottage cheese). I rarely go there, but I most likely won’t be going back for a long time.

Many selections, Pricing options, seating etc. They have improved greatly from a few years ago. Our server was amazing. We have had her a few times. We were there for lunch buffet. Some of the main meats could have been a little hotter. The taste was good. Consider the one trip choice as that is plenty of food!

This is an old family favorite restaurant that has served excellent home cooking food for decades. The menu is fantastic and the staff is friendly, very attentive to guests. The food is delicious, especially the prime rib and brisket they make . Really great atmosphere rich with local history and memorabilia to enjoy. The pies go without saying- a must try. Highly recommend Back 40 Junction. Delicious!

This used to be the place to go, but not any more. We have been doing here for years, but since the new ownership, COVID and who knows what, it’s really gone downhill. I really hate to leave a negative review, but after multiple visits looking for improvement and not finding any, it’s time. This time we dined on a Friday. At 1 hour before closing, they started packing up. If you wanna close at 8, close at 8, not 9. The sign out front is peeling, the lights inside have mismatched bulbs…a general lack of maintenance and detail. No shrimp on buffet, even though the website indicates it’s included at the almost $25 price , and when I asked they said they were out. Really? A buffet running out? I bet they just weren’t putting it out. The meat bar was basically unattended…… but you can’t cut your own. We paid an extra $40 for crab. It was ok, tasty, acceptable for the price I guess. They should either make this place a cheap average buffet, or improve quality, and even raise prices if necessary, but the way it is, I hope the staff starts looking for work elsewhere….we are done with this one….

The food was delicious and tasted like it was all made from scratch. The rolls were light and fluffy and the cinnamon butter was good. The pot roast and turkey were both good. My boyfriend loved the prime rib. The salad bar was fresh and being restocked right away. Everything was clean. And the waitress was friendly and attentive. The homemade dessert selection was good. And they even hand dip ice cream to go with your pie. The hostess was helpful in explaining prices for various days and times. I recommend reading their website for pricing info before you go. We definitely will go back.
