My father took my wife and I out to Astoria for a late birthday dinner. It is difficult getting a reservation to this place mainly because they only allow you to book one week out. Luckily we were able to get a reservation. We ordered a bunch of items and share them all which is probably the best way to go. The dishes that stood out were the beef noodles, walnut shrimp, and chili wonton. If you tell them your preferred flavors, they can curate the perfect Mock-tail or cocktail for you. Their drinks were amazing. We had a great experience and our excited to go back again. This is in addition to the staff being fantastic. Parking is tough and the restaurant is small, which makes it a little bit more exclusive.

If you love Copycat on H st NE, you’ll love this place! I didn’t realize it was the same owners! Similar vibe – too small and hard to get a reservation, but worth it… SO GOOD and amazing service! You can just tell the bartender what you like, and they will make you an amazing drink! The walnut shrimp is my absolute fav (didn’t even take a picture because I gobbled it up haha)! The basil eggplant was also amazing. Will definitely be back!

Went here for a girls night and it did not disappoint

I arrived as a walk in at 5 pm and was promptly seated upon opening for my party of 3 with no issues. If you don’t have a reservation I’d recommend arriving early and walking in

For drinks, we had a gimlet, and 1 of their specialty gin drinks. They were both delicious and well balanced. For food we had pea shoots, the la zi chicken, chimmichuri steak crab fried rice, Dan Dan noodles, potatoes and salt and pepper eggplant. Ever since dish was unique and absolutely delicious. The shocker of the Jonny were the potatoes which were cut like noodles, spicy, and flavorful! I also loved the eggplant and couldn’t get enough of it!

Service was also top tier!

Definitely will be back

This is truly one of the best restaurants in DC, every time I go it is a banger. You must try their salt and pepper eggplant and Dan Dan noodles. The vegan noodles are delicious as well. Not only are their food and drinks phenomenal the staff is a delight! From the hostess, bartenders, and waiters, everyone is friendly and quick. Thank you Jason for the excellent service tonight!

Make a reservation! It’s very popular and I know why. This was my second visit here. I went many years ago and the high quality is still there. Very flavorful food. Some spicy, be careful. Cozy atmosphere. We sat in the window counter. Service was good and the staff were nice.

Very tasty, very authentic Chinese Sichuan. Extremely busy as well. Bit pricey though. You shall try their green pepper fish – very close to those big names Suan Cai Yu you ca find in China.

Love the rustic railroad style of the restaurant.
I had a reservation and was sat right away.
Service was great , every staff member that walked by checked on me .
I ordered from the vegan options . Noodles were delicious and slightly spicy the impossible beef and tofu was ok and not my favorite.
I agree with other reviews that the portion size doesn’t quite match the price.
I got a home made lemonade which was delicious however the bartender was making some really great looking cocktails that I’m sure also tasted good.

The food was actually great this time (we ordered two different kinds of noodles, chili wontons, and steak ), and our server was very kind and attentive.

However, what happened after our meal was completely unacceptable. As we were finishing our drinks, we noticed a maggot crawling on the table. We alerted our server immediately, who was visibly horrified and killed it. A few minutes later, another maggot appeared, and then a few minutes after that, three or four more were crawling on a ledge attached to the booth near an exposed brick wall.

While our server and the staff were kind and apologetic, the manager’s response was underwhelming and they initially only offered to comp our drinks. After we explained how serious and unsanitary the situation was, they eventually comped the full meal, which we appreciated. But the biggest concern was that as we were leaving, we overheard them tell another party, “Good news, your table just got up and we can seat you now,” referring to the same table we had just left. That’s genuinely disgusting and unsafe.

The maggots alone are a massive health code issue, but reseating another group right afterward is even worse. It’s really unfortunate, because the food and service were good, but until this place addresses the obvious sanitation and pest problem, I would strongly avoid eating here.

Astoria is hands down the best Chinese restaurant in town. The flavors are bold, consistent, and everything feels made with care. The mapo tofu is incredible, the cumin lamb is packed with flavor, and the dan dan noodles are a must. Don’t skip the dumplings either — they’re always spot on.

On top of the food, the cocktails here are some of the best around and pair perfectly with the menu. Add in the lively atmosphere, and it’s easily one of DC’s go-to spots for Chinese food. You certainly will need to make reservation in advance.

We just came back again, and once more the food absolutely hit the spot. The braised pork belly was melt-in-your-mouth good, the crispy basil eggplant was perfectly done, and the watercress dish was super fresh and flavorful. Everything was amazing all over again—Astoria really knows how to deliver consistency and quality.

Astoria really impressed me during my visit! From the moment we walked in, we were greeted with a fun touch—goldfish crackers to snack on while we looked through the menu. I had to try a cocktail since Astoria is known for their drinks, and I ordered the Bramble. It was refreshing and delicious, with bits of blackberry at the bottom and served with my favorite type of ice—the Chick-fil-A ice.

For our entrées, we split the Mapo Tofu and Beef Noodles. The Mapo Tofu was the standout for me. It was packed with flavor and had the perfect amount of Szechuan peppercorn, creating a wonderful balance without being overpowering. The tofu was silky and held its shape beautifully. The Beef Noodles were also a hit. The hand-pulled noodles had the perfect chew, and the thickness was just right. The beef was flavorful, and while it could have been slightly more tender, it still enhanced the dish wonderfully and added to the overall enjoyment.

I was pleasantly surprised by how much I enjoyed everything at Astoria. Their food has stayed on my mind long after I left. The ambiance was cozy and lively, and while it was a bit noisy due to the smaller space, it only added to the vibrant atmosphere. I can’t wait to return!
