Their food truck came to Presbyterian apartments today. We had three options. We could choose a rib plate with 3 ribs for $13, pork or chicken sandwich plate for $10, or 6 wings plate for $10. Everything came with two sides. Macaroni and cheese, baked beans, or coleslaw. I had never tried their food before, so I ordered one wing plate for lunch, and a pork sandwich for later. The wings were tiny legs with a sauce that was a little sweet. The macaroni and cheese was creamy and tasted like it should. The coleslaw – forget it. There was plenty of creaminess and mayonnaise, but there was a funky taste about it that I couldn’t identify. I couldn’t eat it beyond a couple of bites, nor could my friend. The pork sandwich was good, with a sauce that was tangy. It was chopped meat with a liquid drizzled in it. I tried a bite of the baked beans. They might have had chili sauce in them. They were good, just a little sweet and different. I would rather spend my money on pulled pork. If you like a lot of vinegar in your food, this might be for you. This wasn’t good enough to try again for my money.

This is old school, smoked barbecue. It’s obvious why this place is legendary and definitely worth a visit. The register was being worked by the granddaughter of the man who started Archibald’s. I was treated kindly and felt cared for. The mixed plate was smoky and delicious. They have a vinegar sauce that had a nice tang and was a great change of pace from the typical sweet red sauce. The dining area is essentially a covered patio, but it was very comfortable and allows you to strike up some conversations if you want. I shared my table with a family from Texas who said they loved the meat, sauce, baked beans, potato salad, and banana pudding. It was different from the Texas barbecue they’re familiar with but they left very happy.

So this was the third place I went to in Tuscaloosa. It’s awesome how old this place is and the BBQ history here. I loved the old pit which they still call a hole in the wall. I ordered the ribs, the pork which you can get sliced or chopped and baked beans and coleslaw. I got the pork sliced because that’s what they recommend. It was so moist and flavorful, and the bark had great flavor. I would definitely get that again. The ribs however were a little disappointing. They had great smoke flavor, however there was no rub on them. Some pieces were a little tough and fatty. I did like them I just don’t know if I would get them again because of the last two points. The sauce was excellent because it is vinegar based and reminds me of a Carolina sauce. Baked beans and Coleslaw were really good as well. I definitely recommend going to this place. Totally worthwhile. You have to go to the Northport one though.

Here visiting from Texas and had to try the BBQ. I will say that it’s not Texas BBQ but it was pretty good! I prefer my ribs to fall off the bone, these were not quite there but good none the less! Pork sandwich was excellent, sides were good. For $26 I got my money’s worth for sure!

well me and my other do not go out much to eat but we were talking about bbq and thought this original place might be kinda fun as it had good reviews and such and never been here. Well, honestly, we got the mixed dinner of pork and ribs and the ribs were just so dry and tough i could not eat. The Pork was just ok but not totally tender. Beans were ok and potato salad was somewhat of a puree. I am sorry but not in my taste range. Seems like meat has been cooked too long. I guess all I have to say about this.

This is my favorite bbq place. Nothing fancy here and not a huge menu just some good ole fashioned fresh BBQ! Folks here are always friendly. The place is always busy but service is quick. Not really a “dine in” facility, maybe just for lunch. They do have a few tables inside and there is also seating outside if you do want to eat there but honestly I have never seen anyone dining in. It is a great place for take-out. Prices are very reasonable also .
