sooo disappointed.

I ordered the Chicken Parmesan because I saw good reviews & I’m a huge fan. Sauce tasted good on the pasta but as I tried to cut into the chicken it was absurdly tough. tasted it & it tasted either over cooked, rubbery,& or old.

Sad because the portion size was good.

Wife came home and asked what the smell was. told her I had to throw out my dinner & she said it smelt like old frying oil. Will not likely order from here again. Unfortunate

What a gem in the heart of federal hill.. funny how fate brings you to a place. Tried to go to two other recommended places, both of which had long waits, however so glad they did because otherwise we would’ve missed out on this wonderful place. Everything about it- service, atmosphere, food, drinks – were great!! super affordable and excellent flavor. Great crowd and staff too. Everyone working was very attentive and had great recommendations with the food and beer. Would HIGHLY recommend this place and will definitely be back!! Pay Big Rob a visit at the bar; he’s great!! As is his Barback (not sure his name but younger guy who was great too). Thanks for the great experience, food, and time!! We had the calamari (excellent and unique flavor), house salad with the house dressing, the drunken chicken (phenomenal) and the tortellini (excellent as well).

Great place. Service excellent, with 3 people delivering food so it’s hot for everyone. Food delicious, service fast, but not at all rushed. Parking was the best; attendant fast, friendly, helpful. Best part is my 90 year old dad who went to Providence once a week for years to do business was able to get back there and enjoy. Talk about making someone’s day! You won’t be disappointed if you go, and especially if you order off the specials menu-what a deal.

It feels like you step back in time when you’re here. The atmosphere is warm but the people are warmer. The food is fantastic but the people – waiters, waitresses, bartender (Rob!), manager and owner, are all even more fantastic. Even the clientele are more fantastic. The people who work here and who eat here genuinely care about the craft of running a restaurant. It’s love and it’s care and while visiting Providence alone for the first time from the west coast , I felt included, I felt like family.

I had the short rib ravioli with shrimp. It was hearty and delicious especially on a rainy day. Rob poured me a glass of Pinot Grigio when I walked in (I headed straight for the bathroom and his voice trailed “I got you, it will be right here for you”). I also tried his old fashion and it was stiff and warm drink – a great job on a classic cocktail.

I had a wonderful experience and would love to bring family and friends back.

Tonight we experienced Angelo’s Restaurant in the Federal Hill section of Providence Rhode Island and we truly stepped back in time. Was great to see their original menu displayed above the dining room which included a Snail Salad and Tripe! This Italian restaurant dates back to 1924 and are celebrating 103 years in business!! Specifically went very traditional on purpose and were very pleased. To start off we had their original 1924 pan fried Eggplant Parmigiana and it was top notch and beyond moist and full of flavor with their homemade sauce which alone takes your palate way back. For entrees I had Veal Parmigiana with Cavatelli and was one of the most tender Veal dishes I have had and again oh the sauce! The Family loved the Gnocchi with Chicken and Penne Vodka. For dessert cappuccino and their homemade Lemoncello Cheese Cake and when I heard they had Spomoni I has to have and it was so good and I’m thinking they may be getting from L&B Spomoni Gardens in Brooklyn as it was very close to theirs. Paige our Waitress was also phenomenal!

Angelo’s Restaurant has been Strongly Recommended by Johnny C and Family!

Ive been lucky enough to eat here since the early 70’s. It still holds it family style charm and the food is always how I remember it, delicious. Julia, our waitress, was spectacular and added to our great experience. So much so we grabbed Anthony the manager and let him know how great she was as well as his staff.

The BEST lasagna I’ve ever had! Sorry, Ma!
Over a dozen layers of homemade pasta with a Bolognese that could be served straight up! Speaking of service, Rob the bartender was the best! He poured a perfect martini while simultaneously and effortlessly being our local guide to Federal Hill and training the up and coming bartender, Christian.

Over 100 years in business and there is no doubt why!

In response to the management rebuttal below, I am editing my review to flat on call them out on their of lying.

On several occasions, our family has observed the owner either at the bar drinking, or walking around emitting a strong odor of alcohol. We’ve also witnessed both the former and current Gm, as well as one particular server taking shots behind the bar, or simply sitting at the bar drinking. They can deny this all they want, but they know they’re lying they’ll have to live with those decisions.

They seem to be hanging their hat on the previous 102 years of love and effort poured into the restaurant by family and friends but forgetting that the people who work for you today, are the ones who will help you stay in business for another 100 years. Good luck to you.

This place has gone way down hill. They’ve seemingly moved on from their incredible bartender Rob. He had such personality, worked is tail off and was the life of that lounge.

There are many new faces on the team. They’ve had 2 GMs in the last year and this latest one walks around like he’s king of the hill. The few times I’ve seen him there, he has smelled like alcohol.

The owner, who used to bust her tail is almost never seen. The few times I have seen her, she’s been at the bar drinking.

The food is still the same but the service is awful.

This place slaps. It’s been around for over 100 years and in this day and age that certainly says something. Their food is exactly what you’d expect from a classic Italian joint. The service is always outstanding. Rob is the life of that bar and lounge. The drinks , the personality, the accent. Credit to the owner for always hustling whether it’s in the kitchen or making drinks. Parking at Angelo’s is a breeze. Just pull around back and Anthony takes care of the car for you.

You cannot go wrong with Angelo’s. Its an old school Italian joint and is a low key, casual alternative to the higher end restaurants on the hill. The food is like what you’d get from an Italian Nonna’s kitchen. It’s very solid.

If we could give this place 10 stars we would! My husband and I are on our honeymoon (doing an east coast road trip) and we came to Angelos. We made the trip from our hotel in Boston to this local, family-owned restaurant in Rhode Island. This is hands down the best food we have had on this trip and in the top tiers of food we have tried, period. The calamari was the best we have had, and the main courses were exceptional and fairly priced. My husband got the Jaime and I got spaghettini and vodka sauce. The star of the show had to be the veal and peppers and the pumpkin cheesecake! So good, we both were so full and happy.

Also cant forget about the staff! There’s good customer service and then “whatever the heck that was” (my huband). Everyone was sooo kind, friendly, welcoming, and funny. They repeatedly came and checked on us to make sure everything was good. The owner came to our table several times to serve us dishes and ask about our honeymoon and tell us about the history of the restaurant. (BTW it is still family owned and has been around for 100 years). Our waitress was also super nice and made sure everything was good!

Whenever we treck back out to the east coast, we are for sure coming back and would highly recommend anyone to try Angelos!
