I’ve been here a few times. It’s a tad bit pricey but what isn’t these days. Today I ordered the salmon poke for lunch and it was very good. Drinks are usually good and they also make buns. Overall it’s a pretty good restaurant, give it a try.

Tavernakaya is as fresh and authentic Japanese one can get in Madison. The best seats are up front with views of the Capitol Square. The location is stellar as well as seating options with high and low top tables. The service and staff here are friendly and very knowledgeable of the menu items.

First time going with my partner and we loved the food and atmosphere. We swear they knew what we were ordering because the appetizers, drinks and food came out so fast and fresh. The staff were fast and attentive as well. Great date night and we want to go back for the live music.

I come here fairly regularly to host dinners for folks that are visiting. They have always been very accommodating and the food never disappoints. If I was to give one recommendation, I would recommend the Tempura Cheese Curds. They are some of the best I have had in Wisconsin. They are different in that they are a lighter and fluffier fried curd due to the Tempura batter.

My experience was a disappointment to say the least. The appetizers are the only reason I’m not more upset with this overpriced experience. The service was lack luster when our meal was over $100. We had multiple things bumped and spilled on our table which wouldn’t usually be a deal breaker, but the food was not great. My $22 sushi was some of the least impressive that I’ve ever had with it being 85% rice and practically no filling. My shrimp tempura was soggy and was the cherry on top of this poor dinner. This was such a disappointing experience from a Japanese restaurant.

First time tried Tavernakaya and was completely bowled over. Made reservations online and we were seated as soon as we are arrived. Our server was great and helped answer our questions and made good recommendations.

Great spin on Japanese good downtown with a bonus of combining with Umani! Cheese curds were definitely in the run for best downtown and worth the hype around them. Sushi was good though I personally didn’t think it was better than RED. Overall still 5/5
