I have a gluten sensitivity, and when I communicate this while ordering, I am usually acknowledged in a way that shows care and attention to preventing cross-contamination. Tonight, that was not the case. The young man who took my order appeared irritated from the start while my husband was ordering, and when I informed him of my gluten sensitivity, he simply said “ok” without any reassurance or follow-up.
I watched as a young female employee prepared my husband’s order, she was kind and did a great job. The young man then prepared mine. As I observed, he added the topping and then used the same mixer that had just been used for my husband’s concrete, which contained gluten, to blend mine. At that point, I was frustrated and concerned.
My husband offered to ask for the order to be remade, but due to the employee’s demeanor throughout the process, I did not feel comfortable addressing it in the moment due to my now attitude. I also attempted to call the store afterward to discuss the situation, but no one answered.
I did not receive a receipt, so I’m unable to provide the employee’s name. I want to emphasize that this experience is not typical of Andy’s, which is why it stood out so strongly. I truly hope this feedback can be used as a learning opportunity, especially when it comes to handling food sensitivities with care and professionalism.
I came for dessert and got a small triple chocolate cup! And I got to take it home!
